>In English boards, students in the advanced French stream must pass the same test as those in the French school system. In 2023, 70.6 per cent of EMSB students who wrote that test passed. That’s slightly lower than the provincial average for public schools (71.1 per cent), according to Education Ministry statistics. But the EMSB’s score was higher than the three French boards on Montreal Island, where only between 60.7 per cent and 63 per cent passed the test.
Among students in enriched French in English boards, 90 per cent passed the French test in 2023. In the lowest level of French — French as a second language — 80 per cent passed the French test.
