  1. Because he’d maybe lose his seat. That and he’s probably got himself a nice cozy lobbyist job lined up I bet.

Because he knows that he would only get one vote and that would be Jaggy.

It is nice to see him actually make the right call on his own for the first time in a long while. If he stayed on, it would create a situation where it* may undermine the new leader’s position and ability to control the party.

I’d be more surprised if he was. If the party’s goal is to distance themselves from him, running and being in the HoC again would dampen that.

Maybe he should go into teaching. He’d make an excellent drama teacher.

He shouldn’t run for local dog catcher, let alone anything involving politics.

As expected, given his humiliating outsing.

If he stays, his image would not help the next leader, probably Carney or Freeland.

Him not running again is what the next leader was hoping for.

Exit stage left, leave the mess to others, reap those big bucks on the international lecture circuit.

It sucks how much of a difficult challenge this fucknut has left any contender who wants to be in the Liberal leadership race. An impossibly short runway to raise money, create distance from his brand, and to differentiate themselves for a federal election.
We’re not getting a battle for the heart and soul of the LPC, which is what many longtime supporters concerned with the direction of the party would like to see. Instead we’re getting a mad scramble to avoid complete annihilation.

Shame that we can’t see him potentially get beaten in Papineau, but this is probably the right move for him.
