    * EPFL researchers have developed RAVEN, a drone with bird-inspired legs that can walk, hop, and perform jumping takeoffs – mimicking how birds like crows typically initiate flight through jumping rather than wing-power alone
    * The drone (about the size of a crow with a 1-meter wingspan) features multifunctional legs with elastic toe joints and tendon-like springs
    * While the leg mechanism adds weight, research showed that jumping takeoffs are about 10 times more energy efficient than standard ground takeoffs, which tend to be unstable due to high angle of attack and low takeoff speed
    * Future developments may include adding perception systems for landing, folding wings for navigating narrow spaces, and possibly flapping wings to make the drone even more bird-like
