    > Whooping cough vaccinations in Oregon drop during COVID-19 pandemic

and the victims will blame someone else for this

  2. Medical professionals are stressing the urgency of vaccinations as Oregon reached its highest number of whooping cough cases since 1950.

The Oregon Health Authority recorded 1,105 cases of pertussis in 2024, commonly known as whooping cough, with 44 outbreaks around the state. There were only 315 fewer cases in 2024 than in 1950. 2023 had only 40 reported cases.

The most whooping cough cases were reported in late September and late October, according to data from OHA.

The top five counties with the most cases in 2024 were: Lane (315), Multnomah (235), Clackamas (135), Washington (119) and Marion (75).

Damn antivax idiots letting pertussis, measles and polio come back because they don’t trust experts.

This anti-expertise “my opinion is as valid as your facts” garbage is disastrous.

  4. What happens when you don’t vaccinate. Costs kids’ lives.

The effect a policy has is usually its reason for existence.

Man I got whooping cough as a kid. I was vaccinated but it was ROUGH. Months and months of gasping for breath, hyperventilating, unable to get oxygen. My dad caught it from me, and my mom had to call an ambulance one night because he turned blue from lack of oxygen. I don’t even want to know how bad it would have been if I wasn’t vaccinated.

  6. Hopefully the US Congress keeps this in mind when voting on approval for the Secretary of HHS.

Live in Portland and there’s been an insane amount of coughing from everyone lately. The average person here is not aware that whooping cough is on the rise here. They all assume it’s a bad chest cold and when I say whooping cough is prevalent in the city right now they are uninterested and feel that it is a bygone illness.

I’m going to post this in my prenatal mom group that’s extremely anti-vax. I wonder how fast it’ll be reported and deleted

  9. Daily reminder that whooping cough vaccine is effective up to ten year after last intake.
Meaning most adults can catch whooping cough.

If a genie gave me one wish, I’d use it on a vaccine for autism just so that I could watch anti-vaxxers’ heads explode.

Europe did two 500,000 person studies on vaccines comparing pre-2001 vaccines (the ones we had ethyl mercury in that made vaccines self stable and last for years that people like RFK jr ignorantly campaigned against without realizing methyl mercury is the accumulative kind, not ethyl, and that there’s more of it in fish sticks than were in the vaccines), the post-2001 vaccines, and no vaccines.

Neither type of vaccine had any impact on any of the claimed conditions like autism. The only discernable difference was how that unvaccinated group died from the preventable conditions the vaccines were for.

  12. With 3 times the population we just hit the same number of cases. I’d say that’s a success, also most of the cases are unhoused peoples who are clearly more susceptible through lifestyle.
