Hallo zusammen. Wir haben diesen Globus vor einigen Jahren von unseren Nachbarn bekommen. Und ich wollte wissen, aus welcher Epoche dieser Globus stammt. Vielen Dank im Voraus ✌🏻

  1. Mid 1990s, since Zaire was renamed in 1997 and the USSR & Yugoslavia collapsed in 1991 and 1992 respectively. Also, South Sudan (created in 2011) doesn’t exist

Edit: Sikkim, which joined the Indian Union as a state in 1975 (previously a Kingdom) is portrayed as a separate state in this map. Not sure why.

  2. Based on the abortion of fonts and a few of the states shown: between April 1992 (break up of Yugoslavia) and the renaming of Zaire to DRC in May 1997.

The capital of Kazakhstan is Astana, not Nur Sultan (or whatever it says).

Between 91 and 93. We know that Russia became well… Russia in 91. Eritrea is still one with Ethiopia and they officially separated in 93.

This globe is a crime against humanity, but it has some interesting elements which allow us to make a good-ish guess. Yugoslavia no longer exists which means it must have been made after April 1992, when the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was replaced by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which was really more of a union between Serbia and Montenegro than Yugoslavia itself. It must have been before May 1993, because Eritrea is still depicted as a part of Ethiopia. If we assume that the creator of the map operated with up to date information, this is as close a range as I can get.

  6. The globe is made from several different types of minerals. The U.S being Turqoise, Canada being (pearl?), along with several different jaspers around the globe like Mongolia being a red jasper and Zaire being a Dalmatian jasper, it’s hard to tell but maybe Russia is Malachite?

Overall this globe has taken a bunch of beautiful minerals and turned it into an ugly looking globe using minerals that the country they represent aren’t well known for, a shame

If I were you I would post this in r/mineralgore

Pre 1993 is Ethiopia and Eritrea are one country, but after 1992 Cus you have Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia etc shown as independent unless they’re just designated numbers for some reason? But then why the fuck is Sikkim independent 😭 i hate this globe so much

  8. Ok, so here goes: Czechoslovakia was dissolved on December 31, 1992, so this is 1993 or later. Zaire was renamed to DR Congo on May 18, 1997. That gives us a span of about four and a half years. The CIS was founded in 1991, so that doesn’t really help, I guess.

Alma-Ata was renamed to Almaty om January 28, 1993, so that gives us a span of 28 days: Between January 1 and January 28, 1993. However, this may easily be an oversight on the part of the creators of this globe given that it also contains other anachronisms such as… Independent Sikkim for some reason??

Other than that… This globe is not of a very good quality, so I can’t really find any more clues. If I had to guess, I’d say some time in early 1993, but I can’t say for sure.

Edit: I just realized Eritrea is a part of Ethiopia in this map, which definitely solidifies early 1993 because Eritrea became independent de iure in April 1993.

Assuming the globe was correct when manufacturing took place it is quite a narrow window 1st Jan 1993 (due to Czech Republic and Slovakia as two separate countries ) through to 24th May 1993 (due to Eritrea not being shown as separate from Ethiopia).

Serbia & Montenegro existed between 1992-2006.

It doesn’t have Eritrea, which was formally proclaimed in 1993.

    The map is dated 1992.

  11. I dunno, is it already in a relationship? Take it out for a causal spin and see what happens 😉🫶

    Between 1 January 1993 and 23 May 1993 inclusive.

This is after 1 January 1993, on the basis that the Czech Republic and Slovakia are separate countries.

Before 24 May 1993, on the basis that Eritrea is not independent and forms part of Ethiopia, having become independent on that date.

Could you look at number 5 in the key, and say whether Macedonia is referred to as “FYROM” or “Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” or not? If so, that would imply on or after 24 April 1993, and if not, it would loosely imply before this date.
