  1. In fairness, I think like most English, he doesnt even not care, he just doesn’t even think about it or the north in general.

Only in Ireland would we come to this conclusion.

In actuality, he’s just a typical Brit, not even a typical British politician, but a normal British person; who knows little about Ireland (north or south). Thats all.

I’d say reform will want rid of Northern Ireland if they got in, it’s a basket case as it is currently set up and costs them a lot of money.

Probably not something they want project though – if England/Uk wants to save itself, getting rid of Northern Ireland makes sense.

  4. I think all it shows is the confirmation that many English make no distinction about the  “Britishness” declared by those in the North who’d cling to a Union that doesn’t want them.

Lee Anderson may be the dumbest MP in Westminster, which is some doing.

  6. He said the quiet part loud, not the first UK MP, likely not the last. Problem is, some people in Northern Ireland refuse to hear the (not so well hidden)message….

Worked with a guy who everyone called Irish, I later found out he was from the North and his son was in the Royal Navy. I talked with another colleague who was planning a trip to Ireland and I later found out she was heading to Armagh.

None of the people here realise there’s a difference or care.

It’s funny how Unionists want to be a part of the UK when the rest of the UK doesn’t really care about Northern Ireland (at best).

  9. the unionists are pissed off on twitter , while lee may dumbest MP in the uk , i didnt take him as a irish nationalist

  10. I doubt this will even be seen as controversial over there. I lived in London for 6 years and my general takeaway is that they don’t really think about Ireland at all. A depressing amount of them think we’re still part of their country anyway and even the more enlightened ones who know better call Ireland “Southern Ireland” and know very little about the North beyond IRA=bad.

I actually genuinely think it’s for the best because with the few opportunities I got to explain some facts to interested English people they were almost always generally sympathetic to the Irish cause. I never met a single English person who cared about retaining the North.

What is going on with the self owning going on in the right at the moment? Is it just a natural byproduct of being so terminally online and constantly posting content that a certain percentage of it is just guaranteed to be opinions so thrown together in haste that they actually argue against themselves?

its a bit of a stretch to say that

he called the people from northern Ireland Irish which they are they are from the island of Ireland before 1916 we were all called Irish even the northern loyalists

someone replied “So Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain? Thanks for clearing that up”

As if this is some sort of gottcha

No its not, great Britain is the island northern ireland is part of the UK

He was geographically correct but not correct in the sense that northern loyalist want to be considered british and not irish
