I vacationed in Malta a year ago in January 2024 and enjoyed it, but I don’t see how it would at all be cost-effective tourism matketing for the government to spend $48M (~$90/person) on a random Hollywood movie (Gladiator II).

How did this happen? Is the government corrupt?

Maltese don’t like tourists??? What is the basis for that? Has tourist accommodation caused problems for the locals or is the rent money unwelcome? Are the restaurants complaining their establishments are not being visited? You have to love god or the devil…. Up to you

    You can’t buy respect 😂

The question of what malta gets .. outside spending public money to profit from private businesses, a racket popular with both parties ..

The film industry is notorious for money laundering and what does malta do best ? Yep money laundering.

So the more they emphasis the movie is produced in malta when in fact a lot is done in Morocco for example, you know what shenanigans are at play.

As for Ridley Scott .. what can you say ? The guy has taste when it comes to holidays !

The real question is why is everything fake in this country ? Malta is a fake jurisdiction, a smoke screen for hire.

The funniest thing is there is zero Maltese film industry .. France, Italy, Spain, Turkey.. they all have a respectable, even exceptional domestic film industries . Malta has party owned TV stations, radios and total control of media, needless to say the total utter talentless garbage this system produces is there for all to see.

Never mind that with so much money invested in a movie, malta has no share in profits and no say on scripts, and we threw 50 million to pay the salary of a woke remake of gladiator, there never was a black emperor, absolutely no sub Saharan African either.

Now the same actor wants to play Hannibal of all people, someone who might look more like a Maltese than Denzel, an actor who is very prickly about culture appropriation no less, but flexible when he is the one that pickets the pay check.

Why not get a Jewish actor to play Hannibal ? Worked wonders with Wonder Woman. Even an Egyptian actor would be more preferable even if they would be the first to tell you it’s a miscast.

But I suspect we will soon have another Gahan moment and pay Denzel another fat pay check like the little cuckold gimp nation this sad country likes to be.

  4. I think that the reaction was too hasty and instead of an emotional response, an inquisitive one would have been more apt. It would be better if it is checked on :

    – Why did he provide such comments?

    – What is the country failing to deliver in order for him to say that?

It has to be considered that probably there are thousands that are giving such advice to their family and friends when they go back home from a vacation.

Honestly it just tells me a lot about his lack of manners.

If a country subsidized that much money for me. Even if I hated the damn country. I’d shut up..

U.S. Citizen here. I just got back from a vacation in Malta about 4 weeks ago and have been telling everyone they have to go. Riddley Scott is insane.
