4 years for killing someone a disgrace
If they want to give short prison sentences for serious crimes – especially those that cause catastrophic injuries to others, they at least need to start a castration & hard labour programme to balance it out.
The law allows 12 years for that manslaughter charge they were convicted of. The judge chose to give the minimum and to suspend half of it. It’s not the law that’s the problem, it’s the judges
That sentence is a disgrace.
People should fear a conviction for taking someone’s life, not laugh at it.
Those poor people, I applaud their campaign and totally agree with them, kicking someone who is lying defenceless on the ground into the head is attempted murder or murder.
But how weak our manslaughter sentencing is is a joke a well, even if you didn’t intend to take a life, your actions caused it. In 4 years they will be out and free to kick someone else into the head.
Honestly, I know america is a bit of a joke, but I do wish we could meet them halfway with certain things, judges being one of them.
Maybe if judges had a little more worry about not having their jobs, if people could vote them out, we may have stricter sentences. Everyone is sick of it, citizens and garda, but the garda get it in the neck for “not doing anything.” I don’t know if I’d bother working knowing that most of the time, they’ll be let go neat immediately.
It’s sad that, for this case, people were actually surprised they got 4 years like it was some kind of victory.
Should people like those happily walk among us after such laughable sentence? It really sends a wrong message
What is wrong with our judges?
I don’t think increasing sentences would reduce violence. Instead we should be focusing more on rehabilitation and improving the areas where violent crime happens.
Violent crime tends to be linked to poverty so improving the facilities in this area and giving people more opportunities could help reduce crime rates.
I understand that they are likely feeling underserved by the justice system but I believe there approach to resolving the issue may cause more problems than it resolves.
