In these maps, what language do you pick when representing multilingual countries like India or Switzerland?
I don’t even know how you would translate “fall of XX” in Finnish without it sounding awkward.
Edit: Might just sound odd because of convention I guess. Operation Market Garden sounds funny in Finnish when translated, but it wad and is still used like that, because it’s the convention.
Why are Saudi Arabia and Egypt different colours? Did you use Coptic for Egypt or something like that? And why aren’t the rest of the Arab countries coloured?
The most important thing about Central Asia is missing. I’m leaning towards ‘conquest.’
Seems Turks invaded German Wikipedia.
There is a [Traditional Chinese](https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%90%9B%E5%A3%AB%E5%9D%A6%E4%B8%81%E5%A0%A1%E7%9A%84%E9%99%B7%E8%90%BD) article for the page, so Taiwan can be colored blue as well. There is also a [Cantonese](https://zh-yue.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%90%9B%E5%A3%AB%E5%9D%A6%E4%B8%81%E5%A0%A1%E6%B7%AA%E9%99%B7) page, so HK should also be blue.
That’s a bit tricky because localized Wikipedias are never for countries but for languages. If it maps to a country and just one country (like hungary maybe) it’s “coincidence” so to speak. India “has” several Wikipedias and of course lots of Indians also contribute in the English language Wikipedia. Even Norway has 2 Wikipedias, so to speak – BokmÃ¥l and Nynorsk. German Wikipedia applies to parts of Switzerland and Austria too (Lichtenstein?).
This map is good for covering all the major languages. Dont even need the western hemisphere. Superfluous.
Wow. An interesting and unique map in this sub? Well done OP! 🙂
Everybody asking fall or conquest, but nobody ask how is Constantinople.
Muslim majority countries probably bias towards Conquest because of the prophecy of it happening in the conquest Hadith, so that’s consistency of language I suppose.Â
In all likelihood the Chinese page was probably written by Taiwanese or HKers in the first place due to their access to the internet, then converted or edited to be in simplified Chinese as well. So why isn’t Taiwan labeled?
