At this rate, the Artemis program is starting to feel less like a ‘giant leap for mankind’ and more like a cautious shuffle with frequent coffee breaks. Meanwhile, China’s probably booking their lunar Airbnbs already.
This is a system that is advertised as being capable of building and operating 2 seperate Lunar stations and they can’t even get launch dates down to the right year.
As a rotinue space vehicle its seems even less impressive than shuttle
It means NASA has out-complexed themselves for some reason, and needs to take a step back to understand what steps they missed in their anthology that landed them here.
I means that those of us fortunate enough to remember when Apollo 17 took off from the moon on December 14th, 1972 will not get a chance to see that type of event again. NASA is now too risk averse to be in the manned space exploration business.
Typical Reddit, just shitting on Artemis again.
Boeing vs. SpaceX etc.
The biggest problem is funding. Boeing can’t afford to fail, versus SpaceX, which expects to fail and has budgeted for it. Two completely different approaches. Politics isn’t helping either.
Damnit I had just started planning a September trip to Florida with the hopes of seeing the Artemis 2 launch.
It’s dead Jim. Let it go.
Seriously though nothing about this project says long term success. It is make work to keep subcontractors in business. And I can respect that goal but it’s gone on too long. Time to either have a manned space program or not have one. This billion dollar simulacrum is serving no one’s needs. Other than those being directly paid.
It means the proxy president of the United States Elon Musk, and his appointee from SpaceX to NASA are disrupting NASA in order to give government contracts to SpaceX.
This article is referring to a press conference that happened several weeks ago. Not sure why it’s being written now.
