“Khalid Baqa, a convicted terrorist, is claiming £1,850 over a “deeply offensive” depiction of “a brown-skinned bearded Arab” on a sign at The Saracen’s Head Inn in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
Whilst he is starting with the one establishment, he plans to extend his fight to others if he is successful. There are 24 Saracen’s Heads across the country. Many bear a similar image on their frontage, and are outraged by Baqa’s claims.”
The floodgates were opened when that one pub capitulated, and changed it’s “offensive” name a while back.
Now it’s open season for trouble-makers and attention-seekers to cause disruption.
From Animal rights activists to Terrorists, everyone is now on the lookout for “offensive” pub-names, so they can get their cause or message in the media.
How? He got a solicitor and filed the case. That’s how it’s done.
Presumably he’s just as offended by all the pubs called The King’s Head, which are presumably encouraging regicide according to his “logic”.
No? Well, I for one am shocked.
Piss off with your fake outrage and grow the fuck up. There are real problems in the world that need to be sorted before we worry about pointless drivel like this “offence”.
If they don’t like pub’s name, they can go back to their country, as simple as that!

I thought this was completely silly at first too.
Then I checked the wiki page of the word. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saracen
Essentially Saracen = Muslim. So it’s the Muslim’s Head as Saracen was the word used for Muslims.
Figured I’d provide I little info to help inform so people can come to slightly more informed conclusions.
If you’re still totally set on thinking there’s nothing wrong with the name try replacing the word with that of other abrahamic religious groups and you’ll quickly see if you’re still ok with it lol.
Edit: be nice for downvoters to try and explain why the name is fine and if they’d be ok with calling a pub the Jew’s Head.
He’s complaining about it “inciting violence” whilst being a convicted terrorist that is not behind bars…make it make sense.

As a local in the area, I can say that there is a rumour going around that it’s all a bit of a setup for publicity as the Pub has been struggling of late…
I don’t go there, or know anyone that works there. So this could be just a story, but everyone in the area is saying that this is what’s behind it all.
Even if it’s all 100% legit, the owner has gained well over £1,850 worth of free advertising across most of the UK press, so not all bad. Every cloud and all that….
Please send Baqa to the Saracen’s Head in Glasgow. I feel the locals would be able to give him a significant number of clear concise and eloquent reasons for him to cease and desist his nonsense. Then deport him

Wow, the man doing it will try and get more places to change their name if he gets a specific amount of money. is he going to go after the London rugby club, Saracens because it has a Turkish flag on the emblem.

In a free society people are free to amongst other things try to sue each other over any old nonsense.
It’ll be a concern if the law suit gets far or is successful. But “trying to sue” is a basic right that should be open to all.

This needs to go to court and get thrown out by a judge. It’s ridiculous. The current owner of the pub is not responsible for naming it, it’s probably had the same name for hundreds of years.

Things like this should be dismissed and the guy suing should be fined for wasting the courts’ time.
The only good thing about this is that if he loses he’ll have to pay the costs of the pub.
