I totally get why he uses this word. As a non-French speaker, I find myself drawn to saying ‘merde’ every day—it just has such a satisfying sound to it!

Lady is yelling to Macron because there is no 4G, is this idiocracy ? Travel few km to Madagascar and see how things go when France is not carrying your island.

France fails at not to be an arrogant and tonedeaf colonist challenge once again.

    **TLDR COFFEE BREAK SUMMARY**

French President Emmanuel Macron encountered a heated exchange during his visit to Mayotte, devastated by Cyclone Chido. The cyclone left many residents without food, water, and electricity, resulting in at least 31 confirmed deaths and fears of a higher toll. Locals heckled Macron, criticising France’s response to the disaster. While he defended the country’s aid efforts, his controversial remarks drew backlash and sparked criticism from opposition politicians in mainland France. Although his extended visit aimed to show solidarity, tensions overshadowed his presence.

France should give independence to Mayotte and watch it become a shithole like Comoros.

Due to how badly spain handled the recent storms, I guess macron will look good as long as he gets something done

Macron is kind of right, but he knows what happens when the French don’t agree with him and his government. A revolution breaks out.

    He is 100% right.

I spotted a headline saying Macron visits Moyette and was very impressed that he made the journey so quickly.
I thought at the time that you wouldn’t get the British PM visiting far flung dependencies (not a Tory anyways)
And I remember Trump visiting nearby Puerto Rico and throwing them rolls of toilet paper.

It’s such a weird thing to say — it’s part of your country, why say something like this, and specially to people who are clearly dealing with a catastrophic event?

He has a responsibility to the people of Mayotte because they. Are. French.

  10. 0INPKWMSDSJNFADLKAJN did he fulfill his term limit and thus doesnt care anymore?

The undertone that they’re not actually French is the problem here. Let’s say Toulouse has some terrible flooding, if a resident complains about the government response Macron wouldn’t say be be thankful you’re French because it’s a given that they’re “one of us”.

I don’t know anything about Mayotte though, maybe it’s just understood that they’re a colony and not really French

  12. *If Ukraine was still in Russia they wouldn’t be poorer than Guatemala*. Just being “based” and ” saying the real truth” like people here are saying.

Dude basically put into question the people r/europe had said “are totally french regardless of Russia propaganda” just because lol

  13. Say what you want about Macron, but he seems to love this hands-on stuff. IIRC, his campaigns were more often than not just him going to podunk towns wherever people hated him and then arguing with voters for three hours in the local town hall.

Perhaps this is what the Spanish PM should have done instead of running away from the flood affected protesters.

  15. What is this absurd ‘it could be way worse you savages’ attitude from this guy? And why are people here defending it?? Are you all delusional?
It is French territory, period. What a malevolent way to perpetuate a colonial limbo that spits on the face of the people in its own territories who complain for the lives of their family and all they know… And this is the answer from the emperor. Shame on you, Macron!

  16. Mayotte is a major Le Penne stronghold. This is like Le Pen visiting Le Marais in Paris in support of damage done by yellow vests. This was 100% expected and was a lose lose wether you go or not so best to do the right thing and show up for the shit show.

  17. “You would be worse off if my ancestors didnt subjugate your ancestors”. Just utter inability to understand colonialism

  18. He’s probably right. As neighbouring Comoros is doing quite badly after independence.

But this is the worst way to say it. Especially when you are the president of fucking France.
