So what happened in 2019? That’s a pretty extreme turnaround.

It warms my heart to see Poland prosper. German industry moving to Poland, Poland beig projected to be better off per capita than Brits by 2030, Poland building nuclear power plants sensuring its energy indepedence, Poland being the destination in Europe for American tech firms and defense firms to invest in.

Good job Poland you deserve it. Now if only you could get your fertility rate under control and you’d be perfect.

We came a long way since the Chernobyl disaster. Hopefully the governments (plural) can actually deliver.

Poland, please, go nuclear. Show the germans what a bunch of idiots they are. I love that country, but god damn, Poland, show Europe the way. You can even lead.

  5. I think it is an illusion to think NPPs provide security towards Russia. If one goes offline because your adversary obliterates the substation(s) you get 1.4GW less power per block offline. If he obliterates the reactor, many more people will go “offline” too, than for another power plant. Substations are not easy to reinstate and easily destroyed per missle. They will become a liability in war. One real example is Ukraine.

Decentral energy supply is much more resilient.

  6. nuclear energy is one of the best human discoveries period. I think we should build as many of them as we can afford, not only it’s completely safe for the environment, it’s dirt cheap and the uranium recources are practically infinte

I think that the Green party in Germany is a damnation. Poles are way more smart.

In the 90‘s Poland was poor, in the 2000’s we imported cheap gas from Russia thanks to our post-communists, later in the 2010’s, we came to a conclusion that nuclear is not green enough, and now we don’t have proper technologies, and our current government are a bunch of defeatist and lazy liberals.

And don’t even get me started on angry coal miners who will begin burning tires on the roads everywhere, because they can’t dig uranium.

So when is the right time to do this?

  9. Poland is gonna be an European super power and I’m here for it!!
    Kurwa!

  10. “It has no operational nuclear reactors for power production, but is to start construction of a plant with three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors in 2026 that was originally planned to be completed in 2033-2036 but is currently expected to only be finished by 2040, and is also intending to build small modular reactors.”

2040…ok then. The small modular reactors have been promised since I was in highschool and at this point I believe it when I see it.

Silesian here, from a region that spent like a few centuries being focused on coal mining and not much else.

Please give us a fucking NPP and get rid of coal. Walk through any older neighbourhood where the majority of homes are coal-heated and you’ll very quickly see why. It’s dirty, it stinks, and it makes people sick.

Miner unions still have some say over things here, but it’s waning. It’ll become easier and easier to justify politically too. People are getting used to renewables as well, solar panels are on most of newly built homes and, seemingly, bussiness units as well.

It’s time to move forward, seriously.

  12. I’m for having nuclear plants, and having nuclear weapons as well.

  13. I mean, from what I know, nuclear energy is basically cheap and green energy. The only problem is that if things go wrong.. it’s very bad, but that is almost impossible to happen thanks to how they operate in modern times. Chernobîl and Fukushima disasters happened in very specific conditions.

  14. geldwolferink on

Yes but who is fine with paying for it, that’s the real question.

Nuclear weapons factories next…. just in case Putler gets any ideas.
