Wait – I could have been buying grenade launchers before?

I suspect ‘grenade launchers’ may have been legal, but grenades illegal.

What a joke. This whole thing is a farce and won’t have the claimed impact on crime. If they want to make a difference, there’s a dozen more useful things to spend the money and effort on.

    3. The Ukrainians are going to think we’re trying to kill them when they get a weapons crate full of faulty WK180S and Pink .22lr plinkers

    4. If grenade launchers were in Canada they’d be decommissioned (not working) historical pieces or here very illegally.

    5. It’s clear the Liberals don’t understand neither guns nor the military if they are sending .22LR Plinkers to a war zone.

I doubt the Ukrainians are in need of semi auto hunting rifles of various calibres.

    6. FunkyFrunkle on

Nobody, I repeat, no license holding individual in Canada owns a grenade launcher, pretty sure those have been prohibited in Canada for personal possession forever.

The rifles the government is confiscating are not appropriate for use in a military context, maybe with the exception of some $10,000 .50 BMG rifles, but as far as semi-autos go, semi-auto *only* is no longer fit for military use, same with manual-action firearms. They’re obsolete.

You need rifles that are capable of full-auto/select fire. Not semi-auto sporting rifles.

The real reason why they’re doing this is purely because the gun ban wasn’t being met with the resounding applause the liberals expected it to be. It wasn’t surviving on its own merit so they shackled it to a popular issue to make it more palatable.

This is nothing more than a cynical attempt to drum up popular support for an expensive vanity project that’ll end up costing billions if the liberals survive long enough to see it through.

If Canada truly wants to aid Ukraine, we should invest in domestic manufacture of milspec arms *like we used to do* and sell them to Ukraine, not confiscating sporting arms that are ill-suited for an actual battlefield.

Also, it’s ironic that these guns just *have* to be taken out of licence holders possession because they *could* be used to kill someone, and now the government is sending them overseas to be used to actually *kill people*. It’s funny that a victims group for gun control would be on board with this.

They don’t care about guns being used to kill people, governments *love* killing people. They just don’t want civilians shooting at paper targets because to them it’s morally repugnant.

      Amazing.

      >The Canadian military says Ukraine has requested pistols, military-style rifles and grenade launchers removed from public ownership as part of the Liberal government’s firearms ban

I have a hard time believing this as written. More likely, the Liberal representative excitedly told them that they would throw in these weapons, and the Ukrainian contact was like “sure, whatever, let’s get back to talking about the real stuff”

Ukraine has enough weapons swimming around. Send em to Palestine

    9. WpgHandshake on

How desperate are they to be asking for mixed firearms confiscated from street gangs?

    10. wowSoFresh on

They forgot to add plasma rifles and photon torpedos to the list.

    11. rastamasta45 on

I made a post right after the OIC saying how it totally made sense Ukraine signalled they wanted the guns, because if you read the list it includes belt fed machines guns, surface to air missiles and 20mm anti material cannons. All things never sold to the Canadian public, of course our government lied again to our partner and ally.

Only the Sig pistols and the Colt AR’s…. Someone’s going to resell those.

    13. couldthis_be_real on

So we make policy based on a foreign government telling our government that if you take away these legally purchased items from your citizens we will accept them?

And people we elected and have in place think that’s an acceptable and good idea?

I can’t be the only one sitting here thinking what in the hell are we talking about, and how did we get here? What back room deals were talked about before we uttered this out loud enough that we thought we could tell the public? How many times do you talk about this behind closed doors that it gets normalized in your mind and you can actually say this with a straight face?

    14. Sea_Army_8764 on

I’m sure the Ukrainians can’t wait to use the confiscated SKS and semi automatic .22 plinkers on the Russians! This is completely comical. Talk about bringing a gun to a drone/missile fight

    15. Ok-Use6303 on

      Ukraine doesn’t need guns.

They need long range missiles, drones, ECM, point defense, and, I cannot stress this enough, artillery.

    16. Cool-Economics6261 on

I never realized that Ukraine has so many pocket gophers and ground squirrels. I also never knew that they were so short on .22s to keep the rodents from overrunning their crops.  I already sent them all my grenade launchers when Trudeau was making promises but never delivered for them, when Putin first invaded.

    17. Practical_Air_272 on

Would be better if they sent all the criminals currently out on bail there. Plus they could bring they own weapons and ammo, which are far superior to anything legally confiscated or surrendered.
