If I recall correctly, the contract stipulates Sony has to make a movie every X amount of years to keep the property. And i think it’s every 4-5 years, not sure but it’s definitely a tight timeframe.

Now might be a good time to sell it with superhero fatigue. Of course in 10-20 years they may want it back….

  2. So *Kraven* wasn’t the surprise holiday hit all the Sony execs have been ‘manifesting via their daily affirmations’?

    I, for one, am shocked.

Surely they should consider a different cut and giving Disney creative control as the way? They’ve ruined their goodwill with fans. Anything not co-produced by Marvel Studios, minus *maybe* another Venom movie, *maybe*, is going to fail. They’ve realized that, if trades are to be believed separate from this rumor.

I don’t buy outright selling the rights but I can see them just saying “fine, you do it”, especially with live action Miles coming in. At this point I wouldn’t be mad if Miles fights the individual villains that Marvel hasn’t worked with yet and Peter takes the Sinister 6 that Sony wants so badly want.

Sinister 6 should be Peter’s final bow, especially if Sony is willing to “reboot” their “universe” for it.

  4. I don’t really care either way. Spiderman movies have turned from something at least remotely serious to a joke now. I used to really like Spiderman, but as time went, I kept losing massive amounts of interest and now it’s bottomed out.

No way this happens. Spider-man might be the most popular superhero in the world. Yeah, all the spin-offs Sony have released have been dogshit and done as much in the box office (except for Venom) but the ones they make with Marvel still make tons of money.

If Marvel tries to screw them by making them wait too long for a new mainline Spider-man movie, all Sony needs to do is release a cheap animated movie like WB did recently with LOTR and they’ll keep the IP for much cheaper than all the recent live action garbage they’ve been releasing.

    I don’t think there’s a chance in hell.

But, I also would’ve said that about the X-Men before Disney bought Fox.

    No, they’re not.

People upvoting and discussing this should be more careful falling for clickbait from dubious sources.

It’s just ridiculous that people can spend as much money as Sony has on “Spider-Man universe” and still can’t figure it out that this is NOT what the people want

It’s their golden goose. No way they sell it off to Disney. That’s like Warner selling off Batman.

  10. Shouldn’t a movie studio be able to make a good movie? How are the Sony spider verse line action movies so wildly bad?

I can’t believe they passed on buying the entire Marvel catalog years ago when they were first buying the Spider-Man rights. It was super cheap too, $25m for everything, but they paid $7m for just Spider-Man, and used the font for the PS3 logo lol.

They should because every single Sony Marvel movie has been horseshit.
