Hallo, ich bin schon 3-4 Mal mit dem Auto durch Island gefahren. Ich war überhaupt kein Problem hier, jetzt bin ich für einen längeren Aufenthalt hier und war wirklich überrascht, wie viele Isländer nicht wissen, wie man einen Kreisverkehr benutzt. Ich komme aus einer kleinen Stadt in Dänemark mit den meisten Kreisverkehren im Land und habe damit Erfahrung. Ich hatte meinen Führerschein seit 7 Jahren, kein Unfall, der von mir verursacht wurde. Ich war auf dem Heimweg vom Vulkanausbruch, als ein Gray Range Rover fast mit mir zusammenprallte. Ich war wütend, weil ich dachte, er sei ein dämlicher, idiotischer Fahrer, und ich hatte Glück, dass ich ihm nicht die Zähne eingeschlagen habe, weil er mein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt hat. Dann ging ich nach Hause, suchte nach YouTube und war verblüfft. Seit wann hat die innere Spur das Recht? Verzeihen Sie mein Französisch. Ich bin der Idiot und habe Glück gehabt, dass ich keinen Schlag auf die Zähne bekommen habe. Es tut mir aufrichtig leid an den Fahrer, für den Sie sich auch interessieren. Sie haben mir wirklich die Zahlung einer Versicherung erspart, da es meine Schuld wäre. Wenn jemand den Fahrer kennt oder das sieht, bin ich ein großer Idiot. Ein riesiges. Entschuldigung. Wouldn’t it also make a bit more sense to not stop inside of a roundabout let’s be honest. What are your opinion on this?
Also read that foreigners makes up to a third of all accidents and 2/3 of around the golden circle.
You’re not the first, Iceland is pretty much alone in giving inner lane priority. Now at least you know and can honk at people being bad drivers for the right reasons!
Why wouldnt the inner lane have the right?
The right of way, well I tend to never trust anyone in roundabouts so yeh not first to do this. What really really grinds my gears is the tourists who change lanes inside the roundabout. The frequency in which I’ve had to quickly hit the brakes to protect myself from a car in the outer lane randomly deciding to switch over to the inner lane is too damn high. Probably never used my horn as much as I have since starting a new job in August and driving amidst more tourists.
You are also not allowed to change lanes inside a roundabout in Iceland, which also applies while exiting the roundabout.
If you want to enter a roundabout on the outer lane, and there is a car on the inner lane, indicating left (i.e. not exiting, and not crossing over the outer lane), you can enter the roundabout right away in the certainty that your lane will be free. Unless the other driver is a tourist, of course.
Thanks for the help and being understanding, i will remember NEVER switch lanes in a roundabout and will tell anyone who wants to visit.

The inner lane always has the right of way.
If it makes you feel any better I’ve heard plenty of stories of Icelanders experiencing the same problem but in reverse when driving in mainland Europe. They would just pull out from the inner lane expecting right-of-way and nearly cause an accident and get angry reactions.
