**SS**: Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze rejects calls for new elections as protests over halting EU accession talks escalate. Police clashed with pro-EU demonstrators, detaining opposition leaders and injuring journalists. The U.S. has suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia, citing democratic backsliding, while the EU warns of severe consequences. Many Georgians fear a drift towards Russia’s influence, with tensions deepening amid widespread domestic and international condemnation.

I honestly do not understand the cost/benefit analysis that went on when the current government decided to announce their suspension of EU membership. EU membership is literally in the Georgian constitution and is favored by more than three fourths of the population. What electorate are they playing to?

You can just say “Russia”. The current government has to have some sort of base they are pandering to beyond the kremlin or they wouldn’t have made such a drastic decision.
