Tune out for your own sanity if you have to. Its going to be a rough 4 years.
It is because the US us fucked and the people who support Trump are willfully ingorant or just dumb. Trump is going to destroy everything, and give trillions of dollars to the wealthy oligarchs, while killing safety nets for the middle class and poor. Its time to tune out folks. Enjoy the last 2 months before Trump takes office.
Part of Trump’s success is all the attention he gets. Maybe it’s for the best that people tune out and don’t given him the chaotic energy he thrives on.
Why should I not tune out news outlets rolling over to appease corrupted leadership? They are supposed to be watch dogs, not lap dogs.
I’m just waiting for the opportunity to say, “This is what you voted for.”
Tuning out is what the oligarchs and fascists want. They are counting on our passivity and ignorance.
Personally, I don’t have the energy to vigorously protest anymore. Other people can do that, if it makes them feel empowered. But it will be important for all of us to pay attention and to speak up and out during critical junctures as we slide further away from democracy.

““This morning I have been pondering a nearly forgotten lesson I learned in high school music. Sometimes in band or choir, music requires players or singers to hold a note longer than they actually can hold a note. In those cases, we were taught to mindfully stagger when we took a breath so the sound appeared uninterrupted. Everyone got to breathe, and the music stayed strong and vibrant… [In] “protest fatigue” – we will literally lose our will to continue the fight in the face of the onslaught of negative action. Let’s remember MUSIC. Take a breath. The rest of the chorus will sing. The rest of the band will play. Rejoin so others can breathe. Together, we can sustain a very long, beautiful song for a very, very long time. You don’t have to do it all, but you must add your voice to the song. With special love to all the musicians and music teachers in my life.”
–Michael Moore
I work tangential to government. My first priority right now is to find a new job that is relatively Trump-proof.
I’m just sitting back and letting it all burn at this point. Majority of Americans wanted a corrupt and unqualified person for the next 4 years. Reap what yall sowed lol
I’m still grieving, but watching so I can scream I told you so from my damn roof!
*Temptation?* It’s the strategy for maintaining sanity at this point.
Energy and enthusiasm is definitely at a low point. The post mortem is still ongoing and there is no consensus on the best way forward. It’s going to take time (but hopefully not too long) so for now I’m trying to enjoy the holidays, rest, exercise, and gear up for the fight ahead.
I feel drained and am actively doing my part to sever outrage politics from my life — I am tired of CAPITALIZED action adjectives and pundits being rewarded for sensationalism.
For the foreseeable future my news intake will come from here and LAMF and maybe the weather channel ….but only when they aren’t covering the storm of the century which seems to come every 3 years or so….
I have resigned to the fact that the majority of my fellow Americans have a 6th grade reading comprehension. I just don’t care anymore. Let Trump and the idiots do whatever they want. Enjoy your shit-hole country.
What other choice is there? America wants this. Either they wake up and together we can fight for something better or they continue to embrace the suck and we continue to tune it out as best we can.
Just wait till eggs are now $40 a dozen and you flat out can’t get a new phone or parts for your car
My advice: don’t get to involved till Jan 6th just in case there is crazy on that day and then really pay attention Jan 20th.
A lot will CHANGE between now and then.
Musk will mess up and Trump will kick him to the curb (please!)
Desperation is exactly what Trump and the Kremlin want. They want the American people to be desperate and feel like it’s already too late so that they get out of the way preemptively, even though these fascists will have significant amounts of thick institutional layers to pierce through, which the population can significantly reinforce through protests, strikes, acts of resistance and general civil disobedience.
Remember lesson #1 of *On Tyranny* :
“**Do not obey in advance.** Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.”

As a Canadian I feel like he’s that super fucking asshole kid at a gathering of friends that you wish his parents hadn’t brought him.
I tuned out.
Unfollowed every news outlet, every reporter, canceled my subscriptions ect
When he won in 16 I wanted to know everything I wanted to be informed I wanted to make sure I knew why I hated him and why this was horrible. It made me depressed, it made me drink a lot and I didn’t even realize it but I was so upset about the state of the country that I didn’t wanna live it in soberly most of the time.
I refuse to live that way again. I’m gonna vote like always, I’m gonna look up policies when it’s election time. But I’m not arguing with anyone, I’m not gonna let these fuckers get me mad, I’m angry not sad this time but I’m being mindful that anger doesn’t have to be my constant driving force like depression was back then.
I just know that for the next four years the only thing I care about it my life and my wellbeing and hopefully we make it to another election where something changes
We’ve spent 16 years trying to go high when they go low. It’s exhausting.
Democrats seem to have collectively shifted to self preservation and embraced states rights. The Supreme Court may be stacked with republicans but the judicial system is slow. 2 years till midterms folks.
History is not kind to tariffs and a Whitehouse that will shirk accountability.
At this point I’m putting my bets on Trump creating stagflation which will exhaust the social security trust fund surplus well before 2032.
This victory wouldn’tve been possible without the left-leaning media’s unrelenting, mealy-mouthed nitpicking of the Democratic candidate and lowkey sane-washing of Trump at every possible moment and turn.
“Oh no, look people…the other party is doing this thing. isn’t it the most heinous thing you’ve ever seen!!! Oh well..”
*Economy crashing in the background*
That’s what I’m doing. If you use face book, get an extension called social fixer and create filters to block anything with his name in it
I think we are separating. I find myself going out of my way to be nice and reach out to known and suspected liberals, have pledged to only support progressive businesses, etc. I only scan headlines and note the latest criminal or unqualified lunatic proposed cabinet post. Tune out but support fellow liberals and vote blue at every opportunity.
I’m in this camp. I am no longer personally invested in any part of politics in this country and absolutely do not give a shit any longer. Whenever a conservative brags about what Trump is going to do with their misinformed outlook, I just say, I hope you get what you voted for. They don’t realize that I don’t mean that in a positive way.
I’ll turn out to vote, but I am tuning out, sorry. I think we all know how the next four years will go, I don’t need to be hyperfocused on all the hateful and stupid verbal diarrhea we all know will happen.
Yes, cause too many of the same media that sane-washed Trump will now scream every five seconds how he’s now destroying everything.
Y’all helped this happened for fucking clicks.
Perhaps it is Monday morning hyperbole, but this is the last full month of the United States as we know it 📅
And I don’t feel fine, Kenneth.
Tired of Trump flags. Tired of hearing we have to fight for democracy. Tired of trying to explain how he messed shit up. Tired of explaining how tariffs work and how the he signed the tax bill that raised taxes for the middle class and poor. Tired of saying that prices for items are not going to go down just because the change in presidents. I’ll show up and vote in the next election, but at this point he won. The people that voted for him can enjoy till eventually the leopards come to feast. I hope I’m wrong and he just kinda comes and goes the next 4 years but we’ll see.
We can’t trust anything that is said. Just need to watch what is actually done.
We’ve been bombarded with Trump news the past 9 years (since 2015) and we’ll get the same thing for another 4 more years. For many people that’s almost their entire adult life hearing about this man. It’s extremely exhausting.
The playbook of authoritarians is to exhaust the public into perpetual cynicism, which opens the door.
The media & democrats – after spending years thumping about the threat of a second Trump presidency – are toning down their rhetoric, cordially welcoming him to the White House, even attending his inauguration (despite him sitting out theirs). Spinelessness like this only accelerates cynicism.
It’s not “feeling drained” it is being drained. I’m in the deep red south so I’ve been on guard and having to stay uber informed and ready for any argument for nearly 10 years. And for what? Because the people I know aren’t informed other than the performative outrage that the conservative news has told them to be outraged over. They don’t care if the info is false, misleading or carefully omitting important points…they don’t care. I’m tired boss! I won’t do it anymore.
This is the general sentiment from the left, it’s like oh hey if that’s really what you wanted, enjoy! I’m a white male and financially secure, I can weather this storm, can’t say the same for a lot of others who either voted for Trump or sat out the vote. The downside is, I feel we’re in this for the long haul. The Republicans will keep winning anytime we haven’t just come off of the heels of them destroying the country and it seems like that cycle is what the people want.
I tried for 9 years. Tried convincing friends and family. I tried as well as I could in online forums and social media to actually not fight but rather to argue the facts. I watched the news and read the news with a pit in my stomach every day as the media allowed trump to operate with a different set of rules than any other president or candidate ever. “That’s just trump being trump” or whatever.
I am done. I have my dual citizenship. I worked on getting it for the last two years knowing this might happen. I am tuning out and if things get bad I am leaving. I have no energy left to try and educate people. The vast majority of US citizens have lost or never had the ability to think critically. Social media, poor education system, etc etc. I can’t fix it and quite frankly I am sick of trying
Duck and cover. Hope there’s a country in four years.
I don’t know what else there is to do other than tune out. We’ve been saying for years that he’s a rapist, a racist, a conman, a felon, and likely has committed treason. We pointed out that he wasn’t very good on economy OR illegal immigration during his first term. He’s notoriously horrible at appointing people to his administration.
And you know what? None of it mattered. He got re elected anyways. How much can we reasonably be expected to still care after that?
I think we have all accepted that this is the new order and are actually excited for the fall out. FAFO is all we live for now and the first on the list are the two idiots at MSNBC that went to lick the bottom of orange cheetos boots. They think if they play nice the FBI director will just overlook 8 years of Russia this and end of democracy that…. Here we are embracing the end of what we thought USA could be just to give it away to a failed business man reality star who is giving away cabinet seats to the highest bidder. Tune out… I would say we are just turning off the “lame stream media” and watching what is left of a great empire fall apart. We are not drained we are exhausted from caring about a public that 1/3 has no idea what the F is about to happen and wanted this. 1/3 that never wanted this and another 1/3 that could not be bothered to show up. So color me annoyed when another media company owned by billionaires writes nonsense about how calm everything feels. Maybe the calm before the storm lmao “WE KEEP SQUEEZING THE WORKING CLASS AND SEE NO REVOLUTION” there I fixed the title…. It’s like the articles lately are written for millionaires and billionaires reassuring them that not paying taxes has still not led to societal collapse… rest assured the public is totally calm lmao
71% of the country acted against their own interests less than a month ago. Honestly, I’m done giving a shit. I’m focused on insulating myself and my family from the coming shitstorm. I implore the other 29% of people to do the same, take care of yourselves and pad yourselves financially and socially as much as you can.
To the 71%, I hope you get everything you voted for (or didn’t bother to vote against). Going into this thinking it’s going to be just fine will likely be painful, and I couldn’t be happier to watch you suffer through it.
We’re tuning out of mainstream media because they’ve been abject failures.
If you want people to continue to consume your product maybe you should make a product worth consuming. Putting your thumb heavily on the scale for a literal rapist and getting all bummed out when decent people recoil is the height of absurdity.
Middle aged straight white guy(single dad). I have been voting and advocating for years for women/minority/immigrant/underdog rights, and year after year I feel like the vast majority of eligible voters just don’t care.
I won’t stop advocating and voting, but man am I tired.
Yeah, mainly want to tune out as the media is now saying all the things they should have said before the election, but NOOOO, they had to wait until the election is over with to really tell people that they are fucked with the tariffs and stuff.
What do you expect the average American voter to do? Not staring at headlines daily that makes your head spin when he is not even in office yet and we all know it will be a shit show there too.
It’s me, I am tuning out. If people don’t give enough of a shit to save themselves from this bullshit then I’m at the very least going to take a beat.
We can’t do anything until the midterms and after the GOP put up a rapist felon candidate I don’t think I’ll be voting for them any time soon… so why stay tuned in? It’ll just be massively depressing as Trump does what Trump does, dismantle the country we love.
