I’d love to be a spy, what I know probably makes me a really bad spy

I don’t fancy ending up zipped up inside a suitcase for £30k a year or whatever pittance the UK government is paying.

These are the same agencies (MI5, MI6 and GCHQ) which have an internship program that is only exclusively available for non-white people.

  4. The answer to practically every recruitment question like this is to look at the quality of graduates you are looking for, look at the price of a deposit for a house within commuting distance of the location, and then work out how many years it would take for them to get on the property ladder.

That usually makes very clear why they aren’t getting the quality of candidates they want.

It’s basically the same story as the military and police. The supply of patriotic youth that would do the job is drying up, as the population grows older and less nationalistic.

So now the intelligence services need to compete on purely materialistic grounds to atfract recruits, and the reality is that it’s just not that good a job. The military and police can at least drop standards to make up the numbers, but the smart driven people you’d want for intelligence work have vastly better propects going into finance, or buggering off to America.

And today we are dunking on zoomers for…

    *checks note*

    Not becoming spies.

  7. It’s a pay issue, not a recruitment issue. These are the brightest and best, why go to the service for £35-40k after training and probation, when you can make £60k+ after a couple of years in the private sector?

I’d totally do it for all the bond girls. And patriotism bluh bluh

Why would I want to become a spy? Genuinely. It’s an incredibly difficult and demanding job. Not to mention I have a genuine danger of torture, which most jobs don’t. Such so I can be paid less than most office jobs

Who would have thought that recruiting to meet woke quotas would have been a bad move

Why would anyone want to work in a job that’s extremely disruptive to their personal life whilst also being quite dangerous. It would probably ruin any chance of a long term relationship through lies , long hours and long absences for only a tiny bit above minimum wage!

Since most of nationalist brit are nowadays in Spain or Thailand…
    No wonder agencies are struggling.

The uk government getting their agents to have sexual long term relationships and have children with women from left wing groups is enough for me to never join. They are obviously ok with what is coerced rape even if it doesn’t meet the strict legal definition of that.

Plus we grew up with America saying jump and we say how high being involved in Iraq and Afghanistan when we probably shouldn’t have been involved and not being involved in Gaza when we probably should have been. We will probably end up in Europe because we didn’t support Ukraine enough early enough.

Trust in these institutions is gone for the older zoomers and the cash on offer isn’t enough to override the idea you’d be used as a patsy for Donald trumps/whatever Oxbridge PPE graduate is running the country this week for younger zoomers.
The rise of the right in Europe will compound this, Nigel and his American anti women’s rights mates plus elons and Co’s cash to back it will only narrow the pool of people will to engage with the establishment.

Have they tried actually putting up job postings? I tried applying years ago but the process is so unnecessarily convoluted for shit pay. And even looking now the publically discoverable positions are few and far between.

  15. I actually want to work for MI6 or MI5 because I’m a student in a niche degree that’s applicable to either this or the military (and I’m medically ineligible for military service). I went to check out their internships and they don’t hire white people for them. It’s idiotic, especially if they’re going to complain about low applications.

  16. doubleohsergles on

I applied to MI6 fresh out of uni around 2011. Got rejected because at least one of my parents must be British-born 🤷‍♂️

Whatever, losers, at £24k per annum I don’t think I would be able to live in London anyway 😂

I really want a job at MI5/MI6/GCHQ and there is absolutely nothing available except for really niche things.
