Context. PSD the main party of Romania, a very corrupt one lost 2nd place by 2k votes. For sure now they will win. C.Court of Romania is basically “PSD extended” at this point. Considering the very big turmoil already existing in the country this is like throwing not gasoline but pretty much 2nd most flamable substance on the fire. Most flammable substance meaning repeating the entire election is being kept in case for some reason this attempt doesn’t bring Ciolacu/PSD in 2nd round

Yeah this will only make more people vote Georgescu in the run off because it proves one of their points, and in this particular case, rightfully so. It’s over for democracy either way you look at it.

Holy fucking shit. Those CCR thieves are hand in hand with PSD(Social Democratic Party). Their canditate cane 3rd with 2 thousands votes behind Lasconi. Now they want Ciolacu to get în second round against Georgescu, far right candidate. They are playing stupid game, in a moment were democracy should be protected. And they are gonna win stupid prizes, by making the far right candidate a President. People will vote the far right out of spite. They hate that bitch Ciolacu and PSD more than anything.

This is the most undemocratic thing that ever happened in our history. It is outrageous and people should’ve made their choices heard at the urns like they already did, not making a martyr out of Georgescu. This will only throw fuel over a fire. It’s sad. Hopefully, if it comes to the same results, the process will go further into the second round democratically as it has been so far. Also, how does a public electoral campaign not count as a manipulation of public opinion when it clearly is? Did it really matter through what means a public campaign is it conducted? The internet works exactly like words do irl, they are invisible to the naked eye, but they exist and can sway people in one direction or another. I get it, the guy is shady AF, but who wasn’t, with all the evidence presented? It never meant the person couldn’t be elected and this is the biggest flaw of democracy.

In Estonian elections, there are mandatory recounts for all elections. Those take place the next day after the initial count and are done by different poll workers. Just to be sure that there are no mistakes. And when a vote difference is very small, there can be several recounts until all questions are resolved.

So I really don’t understand what is wrong with recounting votes, especially when the difference is so small.

PSD not wanting to ask for recount themselves so as not to be seen as sore losers, but using another candidate for that as a proxy? Is it illegal? Why would it be? What difference does it make who asks for the recount?
