Great news. Fossil fuels will be around for decades, better by far that we have supply from the West and reduce our reliance on authoritarian states.

  2. In before Argentina starts crying about the land that was never theirs.

    Again.

Great, I can’t wait for us to sell the rights off to the lowest bidder and forget to tax it!

Great now let’s just wait for Kier Starmer to unilaterally hand sovereignty of the islands to Argentina

Sounds like the Falklands need some freedom and democracy…

  6. In today’s climate, I’d like to think something like this should allow consideration for more investment in the Navy to ensure a suitable deterrent / presence is there to protect what is still a valuable resource (regardless of our Carbon commitments the reality is, its a precious commodity).

So we can create more carbon emissions and increase global warming. Hooray.

With the latino Trump acting as the Argentine president I feel Falklands War 2.0 coming in 3… 2… 1…
Even with the financial missery. It will only take the people’s mind of the trouble.

For the love of God, make a sovereign wealth fund this time like Norway did when oil a d gas was found in the north sea. And do not repeat the mistakes of thatcher.

I’d imagine a deal can be had to develope this and sell at a reduced rate to Argentina.

Wouldn’t it be great if we drilled it, taxed it, then ring-fenced the tax money to fund green technology research and engineering in the UK.

    Then I woke up.

Drill baby drill! Of course we won’t though, we’ll continue to enjoy managed decline

  13. I think America is about liberate the Falklands from the tyrannical English rulers.

It is no coincidence that when the Deep Sea Drilling Project discovered oil offshore of the Falkland Islands in the mid-1970s that Argentina invaded in the early 1980s. It wasn’t about sovereignty, it was oil.

  15. I am sure the American military is gearing up to liberate the Falklands as we speak…

Quick, let’s give them away, they must be worth *even more* soft power now!

Looking forward to all the profits from that oil flowing into the hands of private enterprise, with the British people seeing no benefit whatsoever

  18. We really need to tap this our economy is on its arse .. this would really help

  19. Oh great. I can’t wait for us not to utilitize it in any meaningful way, refuse to tax it, sell it to the lowest bidder as another commenter helpfully reminded us or forcefully hand the Falklands over to Argentina even though they’ve made it abundantly clear they want nothing to do with them. My father is a toolmaker, the man who struggles to eat sandwiches and everyone’s favourite karen will find a way to fuck this up.
