    In Brief:

    * Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he opposes allowing Russia to keep any territory it has occupied in its invasion of Ukraine, warning that it would only embolden other hostile countries to invade their neighbours.
    * Mr. Trudeau told a NATO assembly of parliamentarians in Montreal Monday that they need to push back against those who argue that assistance to Ukraine is not a priority.
    * “Of course, like so many different countries, we have citizens asking: Why is it that we are supporting this far-away country that has nothing to do with us in Canada?” Mr. Trudeau told the NATO gathering.
    * “If Russia succeeds in gaining an inch of territory in Ukraine because of their illegal invasion, countries around the world will look at their historical grievances,” he said. They “will look at the fact that perhaps they have a slightly larger military than their neighbour and wonder if it isn’t time now to redraw lines on a map, to violate the UN Charter, as Russia has, to once again destabilize the rules-based order…”

I agree with Trudeau 2.0 on this, but exactly what weight does his statement have?

  3. UnfairCrab960 on

Trudeau is exactly right. This isn’t about certain small provinces in the Donbas but about territorial conquest returning to the norm of geopolitics.

Okay so you going to increase defence spending to meet NATO’s target? Actions speak louder than words

More posturing and performative virtue without any actual path to victory for Ukraine. They’re low on man power. They will not win this war. Negotiate a settlement. End the war before it escalates into something no one wants.

Trudeau talking tough with zero to back it up and zero consequence to himself.

How many more hundreds of thousands dead because of holier than though politicians in faraway lands screeching for more war and never peace🤡🤡🤡

Agree with Trudeau. If they invaded Newfoundland, we wouldn’t be signing any treaties until we had our Newfie brothers and sisters back.

  8. casual_melee_enjoyer on

I don’t see how Canada is going to do much to stop it.

  9. Trudeau won’t be in the decision making table. But good sentiment.

  10. This is stupid. It’s a war Ukraine can’t win, are we to keep throwing billions of dollars at it hoping Russia gives up? Are we to start a nuclear WW3? Sorry but I just don’t care anymore, enough problems here at home.

Finally, I agree with Trudeau on one thing. Imagine if France tried to foster separatism in Quebec, and then invaded. Canada has a right to ensure its separatist regions aren’t taken away.

So do I. Fuck Russia and its allies to the south and northwest of us.

  13. Relevant-Low-7923 on

Nobody in NATO cares what Trudeau thinks until Canada spends 2% of GDP like everyone else is now.

None of your allies want to hear anything about what Canada’s opinion is until then.

The 2023 counteroffensive was a disaster, and that’s when Ukraine slammed into Russia with peak NATO aid. I don’t think Ukriane is going to be able to dislodge Russia from any of their territory without NATO boots on the ground

  15. And so should we all … but then it appears Trump can attempt to overthrow American democracy and get away with it … so we may not get what we want. That said, it’s past time to recognize that we’re all at war with Russia, get over it, and do this properly. Hitler couldn’t be appeased … and neither can Putin … if we don’t stop him now … he’ll keep rolling west … and we’ll be forced stop him later … when it will cost MUCH more.

  16. Good for Trudeau but unfortunately he has no say or power to dictate anything regarding Ukraine

  17. Odd_Struggle3467 on

As if he has a say in the matter. Maybe if he concentrated on his own Country as much as he does other countries he wouldn’t be as hated here

I hope Ukraine can regain their land. Although I don’t think we should be sending anymore money overseas.

  19. mistermarpole on

Does he have the same view on Quebec separation? Canada’s borders will never change?

  20. Good but then he needs to look at the state of our military and its budget

  21. This is basically just posturing to his base at this point. His words carry no weight, especially since now we know the incoming US administration does not share the same opinion.

  22. Chaotic_Conundrum on

At least this dick head finally says something I can agree with.

Too bad the Russian bots will be out in full force on this one

  23. Any_Nail_637 on

What is he going to do send the Canadian military over to help take the land back. Oh wait.. our military only has antiquated equipment because we have neglected it for so long.

  24. Can’t wait for PP to accuse Trudeau of being woke or whatever for this.

  25. Would be cool if he put this kind of energy into fixing his own messed up country lol

  26. That’s reasonable stance to take considering the number of people Ukrainian decent that live in Canada make sense. But the real question is how many lives is he willing to spend to back it up? How much money is he willing to send to the military to modernize our military and train soldiers?

  27. Plumbercanuck on

Do you like the draft? This is how you get the draft, and according to out head general both sexes are equal on the battlefield.

  28. How much longer are we going to entertain the delusion that any of the annexed oblasts will return to Ukraine without direct NATO involvement in the fight?
