  1. It’s almost like you should do background checks and vet your picks…

There is something so amazingly incompetent in how the vetting was handled. Honestly I thought they knew and that it was one of the reasons he was chosen:

    >According to four sources familiar with the situation, some top Trump transition officials and others close to the president-elect have been puzzled, if not infuriated, that Hegseth did not preemptively inform them of the allegations against him before they made their way into the press — most notably through the [publication of a police report](https://archive.is/o/zJtY1/https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/pete-hegseth-sexual-assault-claim-police-report-1235174765/) detailing the alleged incident at a hotel in Monterey, California.

“How did he not know? Why didn’t he tell us?” a source close to Trump says. “Pete wasn’t interviewing for a job at McDonald’s; this is the fucking Pentagon! … Even if the allegations are fake, it doesn’t matter because he was supposed to tell us what we needed to know so we could be better prepared to defend him — not learn about it from the media.”

There was, the sources say, a vetting process for the Hegseth pick, but it did not uncover these details, nor was it especially invasive. Trump’s transition team did not sign agreements with the White House or the Justice Department to allow the FBI to conduct background checks on the president-elect’s nominees.

“When we ask, ‘Is there anything else we need to know about?’ that is usually a good time to mention a police report,” a Trump adviser says. “Obviously he remembered that this all happened and there is no way — I don’t think — he could have believed this wouldn’t come out once he got nominated.”

In Hegseth’s defense, he didn’t realize rape was a disqualifier as Trump has raped and sexually assaulted dozens of women.

Maybe if all of Trump and all of his orbiters weren’t complete shitstains they could find someone who isn’t tied to a slew of sexual crimes to be in his cabinet.

What’s the big deal? It’s not like it’s something important, like wearing a tan suit or having funny laugh. /s

It’s almost like picking people based on perceived loyalty to him as opposed to actual experience at their jobs is a bad idea. Pam Bondi and Linda McMahon are terrible choices for Attorney General and Secretary Of Education, but they never raped anybody (Linda McMahon covered up sex abuse and her (ex)husband was/is a perverted deviant, just in case anyone points it out).

Are you telling me that having a weird old guy who paints himself orange picking cabinet members based on which Fox News host he likes best isn’t the best way to choose who runs the federal government?

So, they don’t care that the Pentagon considered him a risk, they don’t care about his neo Nazi tattoos or support for using the military to force domestically, they don’t care that he would be least experienced defense secretary in the history of the republic… but bad press is a no no (we know they don’t care about his drugging and raping women).

  9. SiWeyNoWay on

Maybe if they actually vetted their picks vs watching Fox News, this wouldn’t be an issue

  10. lifeofrevelations on

If they think that’s bad just wait until they find out what trump has done

This is like fishing in a heavily polluted river. The fish may not all be toxic, but there’s a high chance.

  12. angrypooka on

“This the fucking Pentagon! The only place sexual assaulters can work is Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court and here in the White House!”

  13. Apprehensive_Ad_4359 on

Narcissists very rarely think they need the help of others. That’s the problem.

  14. I mean, I’m not surprised that yet another person in Donald Trump’s orbit might be a sex pest.

I’m still not over the fact that the president-elect (who is himself an adjudicated sexual abuser) wants to put a not-ready-for-primetime Fox News host who has little relevant experience nor has shown any exceptional skills or abilities related to the position in charge of the most advanced, most expensive, most powerful military in the history of human civilization.

And he’s arguably not even the *worst* cabinet pick so far.

  15. I would say “they should do background checks”, but we all know Trump wouldn’t be able to pass the background check either.

  16. “This is the fucking Pentagon”

Said unironically after supporting someone without the experience needed to actually run the fucking Pentagon. This is like a big tech company promoting a junior developer to CTO or some shit.

    > Team Trump Feigns Being Furious Hegseth Hid Sex Assault Claim: ‘This Is Making People Aware of Our Corruption!’

    Fixed the headline.

  18. ThrowAwayGarbage82 on

Ok so who has “hegseth gets booted and replaced with jesse watters” on their bingo card? Anyone else?

  19. ElectricTzar on

If they had done the background check they ought to have, they would have found out anyway.

  20. But they are unfazed by his total lack of any qualifications whatsoever for the position?

  21. ColorMeSchocked on

    Sure “hid”.

Their boss is a self-proclaimed “grab them by the pussy” rapist.

  22. RIP_Greedo on

I find this very hard to believe. Do we really think that Trump and his advisors would be so shocked and appalled at a sex pest claim?

  23. McMatey_Pirate on

“When we ask of there’s anything we need to know during the interview, that’s the time to mention something like a police report”

So strange that these people are surprised by a candidate lying about their resume during an interview considering that it’s likely every single one of the people doing the vetting lied about their resumes to get a job/position at some point during their careers.

  24. So hiding sex assault charges = bad
But sexual assault charges = nominate that guy for AG?

  25. What, NOW you have a problem with people having sexual assault accusations? Where is this outrage against the elephant in the room, Trump?!

  26. Stahp. Everyone they are nominating has this backage. They know and dont care

  27. Bad_Wizardry on

They’re confusing “hiding information” with not doing any background checks.

  28. I think everybody should pause here and realize that what the Trump team is saying is that he’s not incompetent because he lacks the necessary experience to run the world’s largest bureaucracy that includes a budget of nearly a trillion dollars and incorporates almost two million people, they’re saying he’s incompetent because he failed to successfully hide his criminality well enough.

  29. What’s next? A presidential candidate paying a porn star to not talk about a sexual encounter?!?

  30. MrWhackadoo on

They lying. They were just hoping the public wouldn’t care enough to pushback

  31. devil1fish on

Why are they not pissed about the convicted sex crimes of trump then? It’s the fucking White House and presidency!

    Fucking hypocrites.

  32. All this isn’t even the biggest concern with him, nor is his incompetence. The real concern is that he’s good with using the US military on American soil against his political opposition.
