Territoriale Erwerbungen der USA

  1. As a Coloradoan, I find it interesting that my state is the product of three different acquisitions, and the state borders follow none of them.

  2. west was new france and eastcoast was new britain, but new france fell apart and eastcoast went independent

theres also spain but they were south america back then trying to be more north

  3. Calling it the former Republic of hawaii is a little misleading. American businessman launched a coup against the Queen because she was cracking down on them owning everything and exploiting her people. Then they couped her and asked the USA to annex them immediately.

Kind of a euro-centric way of viewing US imperialism.

In reality this model of US expansion is “line on a map”, which have little bearing on when said territory was placed unsee us hegemony. We mostly had to murder our way into occupying these lands

Most of these maps don’t include west Florida or the 1819 Spanish cession. Fantastic to see it included.

  6. canada and britain were same back then, and they also wished to expand into that emptiness

tho canada had areas with france that didnt want britain ruling them that caused confederation and current canada to be created

  7. What about a timeline where the USA became a global empire like the Britain did.

A hypothetical timeline where the USA never lost any wars. Following the war of 1812, the USA and the UK merge as one entity.

Liberia also becomes a state and flourishes after the U.S. Civil War.

It then annexed all of Mexico and everything down to the Panama Canal in the late 1890’s. It then snapped up Colombia as a new U.S. state too. Following WWI and WWII, it then brought in The Philippines (1942), Japan (1945), and South Korea (1955) as full blown US states (or multiple states each). Viet nam becomes a state in 1965.

Democracy and capitalism continue their global domination and the Cold War is largely averted after overwhelming US victory in South Korea and Viet Nam.

The USSR still collapses due to corruption, and then Russia itself collapses in the early 2000’s, splintering into many states and never becoming a threat to Europe again.

Part of neo Russia is then occupied by North Korea, which still remains the same today in its practices, only it is now much larger in size, by a factor of 10. China remains a major geopolitical rival. But showing signs of impending liberalization, China verges on becoming a Western like country even.

The USA never loses the wars in the Middle East – Sadam is still deposed and Iraq goes through a major cultural revolution. The Taliban never becomes a major force and Iraq along with Afghanistan also become US territories.

This is just a crazy fantasy world obviously since none of this happened.

Hell I’m sometimes shocked the U.S. expanded west of the Mississippi River into rugged unknowns. But here we are.

Edit: sorry for my rant lol I just thought this fit with the map showing the USA expanding so rapidly for a century. Imagine if that momentum had continued. The U.S. would have become a truly global empire today, really. Then again, I have no idea how all of that could have been maintained politically.

That Florida date is interesting since there were 3 Seminole Wars fought to a draw after that date.
