Disgraceful decision. Fucked around for years trying to cover up the MI5 failings by taking 6 years to produce the full report, ensuring people can’t be compensated for their mistakes and negligence.

Hardly a surprise though given the current state of the country

*Had the claims gone ahead, the judge noted the security services would have needed to “divert time and resources to defending these proceedings rather than their core responsibilities” – which includes preventing future attacks.*

So our counter terror agencies now don’t need to be accountable for their own actions and failings in court. Also, I’m unsure how many MI5 barristers are out in the frontline kicking down the doors of terrorists. And the fact this happened was arguably due to them not following their “core responsibilities” in the first place.

Bravo Lord Justice Singh, you absolute cretin.

lmao people actually downvoting this. stay classy reddit.

Just in case we needed a reminder that the laws of the land serve it’s hereditary masters and the structures of power, not the people that inhabit it.

I believe there was a talk given by the head of MI5 recently about the enormous scale of threats they have to investigate and manage. I don’t understand why we’re so critical when very occasionally someone slips through. Surely it’s almost impossible to prevent every single attack unless we want to live like China or North Korea.

We all feel sorry for the victims and their family but what exactly are they hoping for here? A payout? The judge is right, in the current climate of budgets being eroded by inflation this would just take resources away from preventing future attacks. This just sounds like predatory lawyers looking for work.

  5. >Lawyers for those affected previously said the inquiry found there was a “real possibility” that one of the pieces of intelligence could have obtained information which may have led to actions preventing the attack.

    Who wrote this?

*”one of the pieces of intelligence could have obtained information”*

This is rubbish journalism at every level from grammar to cherry picking from the judgement. I strongly suggest [**reading the judgment**](https://investigatorypowerstribunal.org.uk/judgement/various-claimants-v-1-security-service-2-secret-intelligence-service-3-government-communications-headquarters/)**.**

  6. The bomber was known to the authorities; his father was only *given* sanctuary here because of being a [member of the LIFG](https://www.declassifieduk.org/counter-terrorism-officials-allowed-manchester-bomber-to-operate-in-libya-warzone/), a proscribed terrorist organisation (but later removed from that list†) fighting against Gaddafi, our regional ally in the ‘war on terror’ to whom we [transported subjects for ‘questioning’](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/10/libyan-rendition-how-uks-role-in-kidnap-of-two-families-unravelled). No wonder he was not safe in Libya; the question that must be answered is why he was safe here!

Then came the ‘Arab Spring’, and Abedi and his pater went over to fight with the ‘doctors, dentists, lawyers’ fighting for democracy against the ‘mad dog Gaddafi’ who ‘mendaciously, desperately, deliriously claimed the people fighting him were al-Qaeda and on drugs’ (the same media outlets that wallpapered the UK with these lies would run stories about ‘ISIS fighters on drugs in Libya’ a couple of years later without the slightest admission of guilt).

Whatever these periwigged popinjays say, we need answers: were Abedi and his father merely *allowed* to leave to fight in Libya against our ostensible ally, or were they encouraged? ‘National security’ cannot be an excuse for not divulging this, as it being made public is essential to knowing whether David Cameron betrayed his nation’s security in search of what was in all likelihood an imbecilic vengeance on Col. Gaddafi for having armed the IRA decades earlier (well done, you paid back someone for arming terrorists with rifles by… arming terrorists with smart bombs).

What was done to monitor Abedi on his return? Why did we harbour him, when in 2012 it was already clear what had been done to Libya by him and his kind? Why was the man who was Prime Minister at the time put into the position of Foreign Secretary – an insult to the rest of the world – and made ‘Lord Cameron’ – an insult to the British?

When is restitution going to be made to the Libyans, who are still living in a splintered, failing country, after their armed forces and infrastructure were demolished using a smokescreen of preposterous lies as cover (a ‘no fly zone’ that somehow means Gaddafi loyalist tanks can potentially sprout wings, but Islamist rebel tanks can not; ‘Gaddafi must be stopped from killing his own people’ while killing Gaddafi’s people with airstrikes and leaving Islamists who are fighting his people alone; ‘this is not about regime change’ but ‘Gaddafi must go’; ‘partition of Libya is unacceptable to the international community as a solution’, yet Libya is effectively still partitioned, and entities like the Wagner Group operate there with impunity)?

When is restitution going to be made to the people whose families were torn to shreds as the result of an insane government willing to place its people in harm’s way by sheltering known Islamist militants and child soldiers? When will ‘Lord Cameron’ – the same Cameron who [tried to intervene in Syria](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/aug/30/cameron-mps-syria), *not* to aid the forces of civilisation this time, but once more to provide air support for Islamist terror, be *punished* for what he allowed – [if not encouraged](https://www.declassifieduk.org/counter-terrorism-officials-allowed-manchester-bomber-to-operate-in-libya-warzone/) – to happen?

How can Justices Singh and Farbey **dare** to say action was brought ‘too late’ – because this country, unlike Libya, was not bombed into bloody anarchy, they can sit and think themselves safe while they snub 300 of their countrymen? Well, I *dare* say that the blood of untold Libyans, as well as hundreds of British children, lies on the hands of David Cameron and the rest of the buccaneering crew who in betrayal of civilisation, let alone their nation, put the RAF [at the disposal of](https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/natosource/nato-runs-short-on-some-munitions-in-libya/) what they *knew* was the LIFG (British reinforcements included) with pretensions to ‘democracy’. Indeed, how could they not have known, seeing as [they disgraced the SAS](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12658054) by letting them be captured in Libya.

If we tolerate this, **more** of our children will be next.

The reason seems like a bit of a cop out. Don’t disagree with the overall conclusion though.

  8. > Had the claims gone ahead, the judge noted the security services would have needed to “divert time and resources to defending these proceedings rather than their core responsibilities” – which includes preventing future attacks.

What utter bollocks, that argument applies at literally every point in history, so you’re effectively giving them a blank cheque.

  9. backandtothelefty on

Legal action should be taken against politicians, not MI5.

  10. NarcolepticPhysicist on

Maybe we should be more selective on who enters the country and actually send back people here illegally. Then the security services will have less people to watch and their job should be easier.

  11. Quirkstar11 on

The state has investigated itself and found that it did nothing wrong

    Wow what a surprise

  12. Hammer-time5471 on

MI5 and anti-terrorism police thwart 1000’s of potential and imminent attacks every year. I don’t think people realize how wide spread this issue is, mainly because it’s swept under the carpet.

This is just typical modern Britain right down to the ground. “Mate mate mate, no mate, you aren’t allowed to challenge the government mate, it’s too late ok? It’s too late yeah? Mate the government have things to do mate, they have things to do yeah? I understand you’re upset yeah, I understand you’re upset that we fell asleep at the wheel and a Libyan jihadi we let operate with ZERO restrictions blew himself and your kid up mate, yeah, I understand that, but mate, you cannot criticise the government, you just can’t, OK?”

What the fuck is this country man, seriously.
