      Duh. Its a service. It shouldnt be making money. Its like being upset that the police didnt turn a profit…

      do you want you packages to cost $40+ to ship? Because if you want Canada post to turn a profit that’s what you will be paying.

      People complaining about Canada post losing money are the very same people that threw a fit when they tried to implement community mailboxes.

      I think we should also take a look at education. The costs keep on increasing every year and there’s no profit being turned, and doesn’t look like that’s going to turn around. Seriously, we have private schools why do we need to provide this free service for kids when the market can provide a solution?

      Canada Post is not a company, it is a Service. Services COST money, they don’t make money.

      Well when they take on all unprofitable routes and we allow the Peivate sector all the good routes. This is what happens.

      Imagine If it was just Canada Post they’d be able to most likely break even.

      So the tax payers lose on Canada Post and we lose on the private routes since private companies want to make profits.

      Lose lose.

      I know people have emotional attachment to daily mail service but it’s not needed anymore in 2024… once or twice weekly is more than enough

      Mail volumes have dropped over 60% in the last 20 years, there just isn’t enough demand to sustain operations as they currently exist.  Canada Post needs major structural changes to survive. 

      First, we need to go back to the Harper era policy of installing the superboxes / group mailboxes for everyone across the country.  I’ve used one for years and it’s no trouble to walk less than a block to pick up the mail. Delivering to every door, every day, is just too inefficient. 

      Second, given the substantial drop in mail volumes, we need to reduce delivery to twice a week, and double up the routes. Since there’s 60% less mail being delivered, even when routes are doubled it will still result in less work than before.

      its easy….we can have mail every 2 or 3 days.. so cut the staff by half…minimum

      i dont care if monday and tuesday i dont received the canadian tire flyers..

      its stupid to have mail all weekday.

      Canada post salaries:

      CEO -450,000.00 per year (that’s more than the prime minister makes)

      Board Directors (there’s 13 of them )- 125,000.00 ea

      VP (there are 15 of them)- 300,000.00 ea

      GM (there are 71 of them)-270,000.00 ea

      DIR (there are 316 of them)-125,000.00 ea

      Manager (there are 472 of them)-91,306.00 ea

      Superintendent (there are 732 of them)-85,000.00 ea

      Supervisor (there are 2682 of them)-69,490.00 ea

      All of these members of management still manage to get hefty bonuses on top of their yearly salary. Than they have the nerve to claim that Canada post is financially floundering.

      Investments of 470 millions dollars for a new processing plant in Scarborough and a billion dollars on an electric fleet (which are sitting untouched in parking lots) are not considered losses.

      We really need to rethink Canada Post and snail mail, in general. I would be fine with delivery once per week. Leave the flyer delivery to the Boy Scouts.

      Don’t be a toxic anti-union a-hole, support workers who are striking regardless of industry.

      Striking hurts the billionaires and helps workers.

      This seems like a huge loss and it just mentioned package numbers are down

      My question is are the other companies using a lot of immigrants to deliver at lower wages? If we get rid of Canada post will more people come in to fill low wage jobs?

      Also is Canada post eating the cost to some rural areas?

      If it’s profitable it means you the citizen are being taxed twice. Taxed for its operational budget and paying for the service that makes it money.. let’s stop being so short sighted on government services and trying to run them like fortune 500 companies.

      All government agencies should be cost neutral in the most ideal state. Obviously there are many instances where that isn’t the case, but the government has other services that are profitable that can make up for this unprofitable one (passports).

      Don’t they remember the millions lost last time they did this around this time of year good tactic to hit them when they need you but could end up with pie on your face too

      Compare that to another service like the military and see the disparity. If a service is profitable then you’re being taxed twice.

      So the article is clear Canada Post is losing market share to other shipping companies. Do those other companies fairly pay their workers? What are the working conditions like?

      Unfortunately, people HATE paying for shipping so the lower cost option taking market share from CP is probably associated with lower wages and poorer conditions. Pure speculation, of course.

      I am in rural BC and Canada Post is AMAZING. Regular mail parcels have made it 600 km to Vancouver in 24 hours. Shipments between rural towns are cheap and just as fast. Purolator has cost me 3x the price of CP for the same package/destination.

      I really hope CP stays viable because their service is top notch.

      So raise the price of direct mail flyers (which you have a monopoly on) and give them a reasonable wage

      Sounds like CP needs management restructuring. I would be curious to know what they are being paid. Obviously they can’t even run a business to break even which is a low bar.

      Canada Post should fund their excellent letter mail and package delivery services, and cover the employee payroll and benefits entirely by charging a higher price for unaddressed commercial admail (junk mail).

      How about the Fire Department?

      oh they don’t charge fees so not the same? Got it. Got it.

      How about Parks Canada? How are they doing? Making a profit?
