I would love to see the statistics for 2023. Compared to 2017, I wager that internet betting is currently far higher than 39%. Almost all of the couples I know who have dated in recent years met online.

I reckon that online has taken a massive hit since and nothing has come in to replace it

  3. things have changed so fast, i can’t even begin to imagine what dating, or anything else, will be like in 22 more years

Left side numbers add to 122% and right side numbers add to 120%…am I missing something?

Why use a source from 2019 that only goes up to 2017? I feel like that’s really dated since it doesn’t provide any data during or after covid. Also, why does it start in 1995? Is that when online dating sites started?

It would be super cool if there’s also a comparision how many couples are still together and if there’s a connection between the way the couples first met and how long it lasts

  7. I understand the drop in meeting through friends.
Mine have horrible taste in friends.

  8. Obviously, the online dating share will increase drastically if you measure from 1995, when almost nobody had internet and most of the online dating sites did not exist.

Very surprised bar/restaurant is so high, is this legit or are people just taking it literally saying “we started talking online but our first ‘meeting’ was at a restaurant for a date”?

But this is from one study.

    Other recent studies:

2022: 80% of couples aged 18-29 met outside of dating apps.

2023: 70% of Gen Z girls knew their boyfriend socially before they started dating.

2024: Financial Times reports young women are fleeing the dating apps.

i hope this doesn’t mean that online is the only way i’m going to realistically be able to find someone because the thought of online dating scares me more than knowing someone in person ever could

And when you consider how screwed online dating is, no wonder many are disappointed with their dating life or have given up.

So basically, if I don’t want to be alone for the rest of my life, I have to slog through the waist deep sewage that is dating apps? That’s not exactly encouraging…

  14. I wonder what percent of “bar/restaurant” is really people who met online too ashamed to admit it?  That would explain the otherwise counterintuitive massive upswing since 1995.

Second time I have seen this terrible data set. The idea of ‘Friends’ in 2017 includes lots of Online activities same with every other item that has gone down . If the data source pointed to ‘dating apps online’ that would be more useful information.

I am guessing people who date don’t call each other on the phone or write love letters as much anymore. What a shocker!
