  1. I get the “Land of Abundance” for Mindoro but I think it should be “Land of Gold.” Mindoro came from the phrase “mina de oro” or goldmine.

As an Indonesian we relate to some of the names.
Mindanao (The Flooded Land), in Indonesian “Danau” means “Lake”.
Palawan (Virgin Land), in Indonesian “Perawan” means “Virgin”. I used to think that Palawan means hero (Pahlawan).
Pangasingan (Salt-making Place), in Indonesian “Asin” means “Salty”.
Batangas (Land of Rivers with Abundant Logs), in Indonesian “Batang” means “Tree Trunk/Stem/Logs”.
Sarangani (Homeland), in Indonesian “Sarang” means “Nest”.
Cotabato (Land of Rock Fortress), in Indonesian “Kota Batu” simply means “City of Rocks”.

Philippines means “Philip Islands” as the suffix “-ines” is related to the latin word “insula” meaning Island.
