Where does all the money go for these bans and fines? Political pockets?

  2. > The Coalition wants the laws passed this sitting fortnight, meaning they could sail through without detailed scrutiny despite calls for some form of inquiry.

they want it all passed within a week before Parliament breaks up when they not even completed the age verification trial yet or given any full details on what will be in the bill, It seems like madness to pass something that is very complex and far reaching in that time frame.

If you live in australia you can contact your Senators and Members here and tell them this will not work and should not vote for this and have a full debate without fast tracking.

That’s definitely going to sting. That’s a whole day’s worth of profits for these companies. /s

A whole 50 million. No wonder they Don’t give a shit. When the penalty for breaking the law is a fine, that law doesn’t apply to rich people or corporation

That’s not a blip on their cost of doing business. I’m sure it’s already in the number as expected.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Meta and various sites just geoblock Australia just like Pornhub blocking states from viewing content.

How is Australia going to enforce this when they are speed blitzing this junk legislation and considering the massive amount of flawed/stupid bs in this law already.

I predict if this passes this law will backfire spectacularly and badly for anyone who supports this.

“Think of the Children” legislation never works and it never will when politicians don’t understand how the internet works and rather pull stupid bills like this to appease so-called “advocacy” groups who likely are fronts for groups/businesses with a serious grudge against the internet.

Make it daily and they’ll listen. Social media is destroying society, it’s time to end it.

  9. Honestly anyone under 16 shouldn’t be allowed to use social media. Look what It’s doing to Gen Z and what it could do to Gen Alpha. Parents play the biggest role too.

Kids shouldnt be on social media…they should be doing kids stuff

they want to ban youtube also, not just to prevent kids from creating accounts, but to ban access at all. And they are considering games with social elements. And all those similar things, I guess, most of the internet banned for people under 16.

11-year-old kids are getting skin care advice from other 11-year-old kids on TikTok. Somehow, someway, that has got to stop. They are giving them advice to use anti-aging cream and that’s TERRIBLE for kids.

Under what enforcement? A “Are you under 16?” message? Because if it’s more than that, then this is forcing a hostile check on EVERYONE through because you know it’ll be personally identifiable data being required.

    Do not cheer for this.

    >Exactly how the platforms will verify a person’s age is yet to be determined

Someone wake me up when that figure it out.
