Is the panhandle in Connecticut not part of the metropolitan area?

How is a ‘metro area’ defined? I’ve been to quite a few of the red counties and it felt like being out in the countryside.

That said, some US cities are so widespread, sometimes it feels like that when I’m almost in the city center lol

I feel like Ocean County shouldn’t be considered New York Metro in its entirety. Tom’s River/Point Pleasant/Lakewood maybe, but I feel like Long Beach Island and the southern part of the county are either more aligned with Philadelphia, or belong with the gray area of Atlantic, Cumberland, and Cape May Counties.

Sulllivan County gets NY TV stations, so does Warren County NJ, I would say they are exburbs of NY.

Crazy that NYC’s MSA includes a county in Pennsylvania but nothing in Connecticut

  7. I always find it odd that Pike County, Pennsylvania is part of the NYC metro versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s. NYC is still probably an hour and a half away while Scranton is like 20 minutes.

  8. Basically the part of NJ that roots mostly for the Yankees/Giants vs the part that roots for the Phillies/Eagles.

Surprised the NYC metropolitan has a part of Pennsylvania but not Connecticut

  10. It’s a bit misleading, even if this came from the census bureau. Most of Orange, Southern Dutchess, and parts of Sullivan, while technically being Kiryas Joel-Poughkeepsie metro are definitely in the greater NY metro area. Southeast Connecticut from the state border to just west of Bridgeport is also greater NY metro area. And then there is Cape May County, while outside of the urban area, might as well be Philadelphia on the beach. I mean, in the summer, Philly’s Action News practically reports half their newscast from there!
