I’ve been tracking Waymo’s wait times since LA opened to the public on November 12.
Since November 13, I tracked 1,741 wait times at various times throughout the day and plotted them based on the time of day.
**Additional stats:**
* 50% of wait times were between 4-13 minutes.
* The median wait time was 7 minutes
* 20% of wait times were 3 minutes or less
* 67% of wait times were 10 minutes or less
* 16% of wait times were over 15 minutes
* 5.5% of wait times were over 20 minutes
**How to read this chart:**
* The blue boxes represents where the middle 50% of rides fall for that hour. For example, during all sampled times between 12AM-1AM, the app showed a wait time of 2-4 minutes for 50% of the samples.
* The line above and below the box shows where the top and bottom 25% of wait times fall — up to the minimum and the maximum.
**How I pulled the data:** I set up an iOS Shortcuts automation to screenshot the Waymo app every minute while the app was open and the shortcut automatically pulled the data from the screenshot and added it to the text file. 😂 So my phone would basically automatically collect data whenever the Waymo app was open.
**Important notes:**
* There’s obviously bias to this data since I didn’t have the app open 24/7, and at night it would occasionally error out, which is why there’s data missing between 4-5AM, and data was limited during the early morning.
* This data is from Hollywood. Obviously would vary throughout LA.
* Unfortunately, I only thought about doing this *after* the public launch — so there’s no data to compare it to before. Would love to hear other people’s thoughts, because anecdotally, I noticed wait times really going up in the weeks before the public launch. I’m actually surprised the wait times after the launch don’t seem too much higher — maybe people weren’t rushing to the streets after the public launch. A lot of people who wanted to try Waymo probably already found invites.
I also did a [Waymo/Uber/Lyft price comparison](https://www.reddit.com/r/waymo/comments/1g4m6kx/comment/ls8odj6/) last month.
