Buckle up kids, we’re in for a bumpy ride…

Honestly though, I’m cool with the TikTok ban. Horrible app.

  2. They were expecting him to stop the ban, Nah he is still stopping it BAN

  3. drive_chip_putt on

TikTok won’t be banned. It’s been threatened so many times and I thought it was ‘sold’ as well.

While I hate the app. It says a crazy precedent to ban any apps. Also would on the other side force apps on the people.

  5. Fiber broadband is much more reliable and future proof

Bit this guy chooses satellite just to please Elon

Section 230 reform would basically be the end of social media. Imagine if Reddit was potentially liable for everything every person posts. I’m sure ‘X’ and Truth Social would be exempt though.

  7. It is not really a TikTok ban. What it actually is is a way to force the Chinese owners to sell it to an American oligarch at a hugely discounted price.

It has almost happened a couple of times but TikTok was lowballed and said no.

    Classic Trump move.
Get everyone screaming about TikTok, and while the rubes are distracted he destroys free speech with his Section 230 changes.

Space broadband = funneling money to Musk is the most blatant conflict of interest way possible.

  10. Going to love the return of data limits. Really will help me get the value out of my fiber connection.
That value didn’t need to be there anyway.

TikTok was already banned by Congress. Should be gone early next year.

The most interesting part is section 230, what does the reform look like.

Section 230 is arguably why platforms don’t bother moderating hateful or dangerous content as it grants them a liability shield. Perhaps this will be a monkeys paw for the conservatives.

  12. There are a LOT of Trump voters that LOVE TikTok. And social media.

Cancel it. Make it terrible. Hit them where it really hurts: things that affect them personally.

“You’re supposed to just hurt people I hate! Not me!”

  13. >Carr also published an open letter to the bosses of Alphabet, Apple, Meta, and Microsoft, declaring they had “played central roles in the censorship cartel,” by employing the services of fact-checking site NewsGuard.

    Translation:

“You’re censoring conservative voices by fact checking them and recognizing that they’re liars, how dare you stop our propaganda efforts!”

  14. Tik tok isn’t getting banned. Tik Tok literally helped promote Charlie Kirk and the Republican Party in the hopes of getting into their good graces. Right from Charlie Kirk’s mouth around last week.

  15. eharvey328 on

Literally last week it was posted that Trump is against the tiktok ban and the comments are generally against keeping it for misinformation reasons. https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1gpth9g/trump_expected_to_try_to_halt_tiktok_ban_allies/?sort=confidence

Now this article says his pick is for the TikTok ban and it’s suddenly a net neutrality issue. Can we stop the circle jerk and get back to actually tech news?

  16. UnWiseDefenses on

Yeah, can we not put up our own Great Firewall, and can we not mess with Section 230, please? Please, can *one* thing I believe in please not get threatened with instant deletion over these next four years? Please?

  17. MaybeTheDoctor on

so will we be able to sue Leon for tweet he host on his section 230 website ??

  18. they gonna ban TikTok so everyone goes to instagram reels and becomes and abhorrent racist like every commenter i see there?

  19. concombre_masque123 on

tiktok ban a good thing, but bots and idiots will move elsewhere

  20. SharpEdgeSoda on

If Section 230 destroys Social Media careers, I’m going to 100% roast those that “stayed neutral” or “didn’t want to get political” or “both sides” because they are scarred of comments and downvotes.

*Welp. Look what filthy neutrality got you.*

“He’s also written a chapter outlining his views on future directions in the Project 2025 manifesto produced by conservative activists as a template for the upcoming Trump presidency.”

Wait, didn’t trump say he and his party members have nothing to do with Project 2025?

  22. End3rWi99in on

Well, at least the TikTok ban is the status quo. Looks like that’ll actually go through in April, then.

  23. AdhesivenessFun2060 on

China paid trump good money not to ban tik tok. Not happening.

  24. MrPuddinJones on

I see no down side to this.

Protect freedom of speech, even on the Internet.

None of these stupid Reddit mods can ban people for stupid reasons.

TikTok is cancer. Get rid of it.

And Internet from space sounds like it should be the way of the future.

All the fiber optic cables on the seafloor can be cut by Russia and nobody gets affected

  25. Rather than going after data caps, the laws is prohibiting municipal broadband, broadband access. Instead they are planning to focus on space? They really hate their job so much they’d rather focus on space instead of their actual job. Section 230 does not need to be reformed. Go ask SCOTUS. I don’t want Tik Tok banned. If x can be this much of a s*** pit, so can Tik Tok. Besides, I actually like using it, so I’m biased, a little.
