This just goes to show how terrible of a projection Mercator is when it comes to measuring distance

Yes, always keep the spherical representation in your head when talking about the world

This is crazy. Do you mean that the upper tip of Canada is at the same distance to Paris that Cote d’Ivoire? What the hell.

Oh. Good. The town of Paris that i grew up in is more than 5000km away from French Paris. Good.

I wonder how this circle would look like on the Winkel tripel projection. That’s the most used projection on dutch schools.

its so weird. 5000 km reach out to both canadian and siberian islands, yet dont reach out to continental u.s. or india

Such a distorted view, I wonder why there isn’t something better that’s 2 dimensional. Greenland dwarfs s america

  8. this is a really good way, but I’m still waiting for a 100% proportional world map (why is it so hard to 2D a sphere?)

Weird way of representing missile reach. Putin must be taking notes

Wow, did not realize Paris was closer to the Persian Gulf than it is to even the furthest east of the US.

Has anyone ever seen a truly accurate map of the world with perfect proportions and distances?
