      Dumbasses the lot of them.

      *They* have the authority/position to dictate how it’s introduced to tourists. Han River would’ve been absolutely fine (and correct at that).

      LOL, awesome.

      I get that they want to push English to write Hangang, Hallasan, etc. but it feels so silly to do it like that. Maybe it would have been better to just do like with Dokdo and just write the full thing in Korean, like it’s just Hangang not Han river or Hangang river? I don’t know…

      Actually, this is perfectly reasonable.

      The name in Korean is 한강, so transliterating that to Hangang is correct.

      Adding River as a qualifier to a name in English is also correct.

      So Hangang River is correct.

      The fact that part of the name means river in Korean doesn’t really come into it.

      I almost guarantee this decision was made by some old 꼰대 that insists his English ability is infallible and got offended by a fluent bi-lingual Eng/Kor subordinant that tried to correct him.

      “Hangang” just sounds *better* to a Western ear than just “Han”, I think.

      The gang they’re referring to here is a group of street thugs that fight their enemies with chains and morning stars. It’s their turf now. Both sides of the river. You got that, Tarantulas?
