  1. It’s almost like the circumstances are different, the parties have evolved somewhat, and the Democrats had an appealing candidate that ran a good campaign in 2008.

What!? Rural areas have gotten more Republican and suburbs have gotten more Democratic!? Who new!?

In all seriousness though, the incredibly stark contrast is very interesting to look at.

Wonder how Minnesota will feel when the Muslim travel ban is reenacted?

  4. Also, obligatory note:

    Land does not vote.

Still an interesting map, noteworthy in it’s trends, compared the population density of MN to the voting record would show a slightly different view of 2024.

Still noteworthy, but an important point.

  5. I’m surprised with how liberal the area around Duluth is. Can explain what it’s like there and the history behind it?

Although …… As more people move to the cities and suburbs, the smaller population in the rural areas is indeed more “conservative”. However some of the really red rural areas involve but a few thousand people. The blue city areas are still very blue but include 100,000X more people. County mapping doesn’t capture this very well

As a someone who has never voted and is on the fringes; what is the lore of being a Democrat?

Kinda have to preface it with the administration before Obama too, It’s not like Kamala wasn’t a terrible candidate. People believed that Biden’s administration didn’t do anything the past 4 years that they believe voting in Trump would be a fix to all the fear mongering worked on his end.

Obama was a phenomenon in 2008. He lost the Dakotas by only 8%. For comparison, Trump won both Dakotas by 29-30+%.

  12. The real Minnesotans are tired of super liberal and jihadi ilhan omar followers…

  13. Pretty much every map is like this now.

Its now cities vs rural suburbs for presidency.

Looked it up; the random deep blue area in the north west is a native reservation.

For reference, in 2008 Dems won 54.06% of the vote and in 2024 won 51.1%.

This is really more of a map of the movement of the population in the last 16 years than it is about political trends. The major population centers in the state are all growing, while the rural areas are aging and hollowing out.
