Kritik an Arcanes angeblichem Budget von 250 Millionen US-Dollar sei „aus unserer Sicht albern“, sagt LoL-Mitschöpfer, und Hollywood kann einfach nicht verstehen, „warum wir das tun sollten“.

I can’t imagine anyone criticizing the budget has actually watched the show. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.
Hollywood, spitting out eveything cespite quality gets surprised about investments in a quality product. Hollywood people are so snob and think that cinema Is the only entertainment form where money should go, but they keep doing dogshit movie and then act like dumb ducks.
People complain about this while Skibidi Toilet is getting a tv show and a movie…
I know a 30 year old woman that watched Arcane season 1, downloaded League of Legends, and has now spent over $200 on skins.
This is purely anectdotal but, Riot is going to be getting a lot, if not all, of that money back.
Hollywood is built around live action. Think about all the behind the scenes people like hair/makeup, costume designers, set builders, huge sound stages, food on set, and all the other PAs, assistants, etc etc. Tons of people.
None of that needs to exist with anime so really high end expensive anime catching on would be bad for all these people.
Even the actors get paid less for voice acting than for live action so they don’t like it either.
So a reddit post with an article that in turn refers to a reddit comment. The article does nothing but quote what Marc Merrill wrote [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1gtrlw4/riot_games_cofounder_mark_merrill_revealed_arcane/lxow907/). “Journalism”.
Going round in circles.
Riot made 1.3 billion dollars last year on LoL.
$250 million isn’t hurting their bottom line, and the bet is that they bring in enough new players to make that up over time.
If they make the game lore match the show and involve people in the characters’ stories it will possibly do exactly that.
From a production standpoint, I’m sure costs will go down as the animation company accumulates assets to reuse and streamlines the production process, so there’s even more bang to be gotten for the buck.
It’s like an expensive promotion to get people to sign up for your product which is charged monthly. Takes a little bit to get them in the door but the ones you get hooked are evergreen profit as long as you keep providing the product that they want.
Inspired marketing would tie in promotions and storyline into the show as it premieres so players can feel like they’re part of the larger story.
Let’s not mention that Netflix will likely happily share the cost if it drives subscriptions and promotes their service as well.
But I’m not even sure there will be more show to do that with, honestly. Riot games may not want to be a production company *and* a game company.
They are actually pushing the limits of series like this.
“The Red One” also had the same budget… Just goes to show you that Hollywood lost all plot a while ago.
I just want to share my appreciation for this show. It’s amazing. The writing, the original animation styles, the music, the direction… everything seems carefully crafted by talented & passionate artists.
Watched it with my wife who never played a moba in her life who now wants us to buy and instal LoL.
I don’t understand why Riot even feels the need to defend itself. It’s their money. They can do what they want with it.
I still struggle to understand the enormous popularity of anime in general, but more specifically League of Legends as a game. What is the appeal? I suppose it’s more of an issue understanding why someone would want to play a MOBA vs any game that is first person.
Not a single dollar was wasted, the show is gorgeous and insanely well written
Make an absolute legendary show, beautiful, well written, amazing acting, sound design, animation…. do they think that’s all free? Just make another half hearted remake or 53rd fast and furious movie..
Anyone who loves the artwork should check out Legends of Runeterra. Fortiche also do the card designs and it is the most fun and fairest monitization of any card game i have ever seen.
You think they could’ve afforded some better music, or at least someone to tell them to stop adding awful songs that don’t fit the shows vibe at all…(not the score it’s grate)
The show was great and I believe that it definitely pulled people into playing the game
At least you can see that $250 million, compared to $250 million+ spent on Disney’s Acolyte…
People will literally complain about everything.
Hollywood can’t believe you can spend a lot of money on a non shit product
Show was good, the big budget wasn’t wasted
Compare this to something like the Acolyte and the budget isn’t the issue.
Hollywood hasn’t released anything decent for 10 years, they’re just a bunch of old hasbeens.
Worth every penny
One of the most beautiful shows I’ve ever seen. I don’t even like the game at all.
They’re jealous they can’t make an artistically driven animated show for their lives.
It’s jealousy. They are mad that someone made an original IP and it’s actually good, not some franchise they had control of.
That’s what, just over 25mil per episode? Or is this both series?
If it’s the latter, then this is insane value for money in regards to the benchmark quality in both writing and artistry on show here.
Animation sits anywhere around 100k to 1mil per minute at this sort of level, and if these figures account for just the new series, that’s 625k/minute.
Expensive, but not nearly some sort of absurd cost it’s been made out to be.
