It is a requirement from airlines probably.
Sometimes the airlines also need to check your entry eligibility, eg. if you have the right visa and such. That happens at gate
The first check is the swiss government checking your ID as you leave Schengen.
The second check is your airline, they do it because they are on the hook for your deportation costs if the receiving country won’t let you in (terms and conditions apply, it is complicated, the receiving country might also mandate it).
This is actually a requirement of the country you are entering. Every flight from the Schengen area to London do this because the UK mandate they do this. It’s to check the ticket name against the passport. This is absolutely nothing to do with Switzerland or Zurich airport.
It must be an airline thing.
Swiss does a second check for flights to Ireland whereas Aer Lingus doesn’t.
It’s US regulations. Been like that for a long time. United flights do it at check in I think (at least for business). Sometimes there are people after the boarding gates before you hit the plane.
Edit — missed it was London flight. It’s country you traveling to regulation. It’s specific questions you have to be asked / answered to be allowed to board. And hitting immigration the other end.
The US does the same at ZRH, there are US border patrol agents near the gate doing additional checks before you‘re allowed to wait for your flight.
Check twice cut once
It’s an UK requirement, same I have to do when flying to Birmingham.
You better not upload photos of people as long you don’t have their consent. It’s illegal.
To your question: Some countries (UK, US etc.) require pre checks.
I’m in your pic!!!
That’s an immaculately sculpted beard/hair combo
I don’t get the paranoia of people when they get required ID/passport in such places as immigration control areas. It is not a random guy in Bahnhofstrasse asking for IDs.
Brexit.
I think they have done this on every international flight I have taken in the last 10 years or so.
