    1. Have they tried not paying out billions in dividends from debt?

Also what’s this crap about temporary nationalisation? If we’re footing the bill we own the assets

    2. And how many billions in dividends has it paid out to shareholders?

I bet if you adjusted that for inflation and market prices it would . . . work out about the same as the maintenance needed.

Recall all of the directors and beneficiaries of dividend payments over the last 20 years and take all of those payments back, forcing the sale of theirs and their descendents’ homes to recover the funds necessary to bring the utility back to the state it would be had those dividends not being paid out.

How long does this need to go on? Are we going to bail them out every year?

      Nationalise it.

Can we please just take the fucker back. It hasn’t worked its, never worked lets cut the pantomime. Its water, it shouldn’t be owned by private interests. Greedy parasitic wankers.

I thought we only allowed the privatisation on the basis that they’d fix the infrastructure ?

    7. > Whitehall sources fear that it will inevitably face a form of temporary renationalisation that will ultimately come at huge expense for the taxpayer.

      Why?

Let them go bankrupt and nationalize the assets at market price (which is probably 0 if they are in disrepair)

Shareholders and bondholders lose their money, capitalism is risk management

Are we absolutely sure these directors are not operatives of an enemy nation performing sabotage? Just a jokey comment please don’t take this as an actual theory.

    9. SmilingWatcher on

Why have we not nationalised this?

Is there a fear that if we do it will devalue other privately owned infrastructure or something?

    10. Stop paying out dividends and use the money you keep getting to fix your shit

    11. MaximumOrdinary on

Private companies need to be held accountable for under investment

    12. This should absolutely be allowed to go bust and nationalised for a cost of £0. Privatisation doesn’t mean you get to take the money and also still get the state to pay for everything.

having for profit companies be in control of our water supply is such a mind numbingly dumb idea, that I don’t understand how it happened in the first place

    14. Practical-Purchase-9 on

It shows how poorly thought out the contract was that it allowed the owners to pay out dividends instead of first maintaining public infrastructure, and borrow money to pay dividends. None of that is real profit going into dividends, it’s just stripping the company.

So how come the bosses keep getting bonuses if the water ways need fixing they clearly arnt doing there jobs

How are they so broke given the fact everyone pays for there water?
