      Don’t use that euphemism. It’s male genital mutilation. Studies are clear, “circumcision” removes the most sensitive parts of the penis.

      Robbed of its religious meaning, its cosmetic surgery for infants who can’t consent to a largely irreversible procedure.

      You can tell this map is from more recent times. I’d wager a bet it was around 90% in Canada back in the 70’s. Almost everyone I know my age is circumcised. Our parents bought in to the whole, “Its cleaner and safer” bullshit.

      I was really surprised to know that non jewish / arab people practices circumcision on the US and some other parts of the world. We don’t even think about this on latam, we kind of use our foreskin a lot XD

      This is Male Genital Mutilation. Nothing else. Period. Especially when the baby cannot make their own decisions.

      Worth noting, putting aside from religious practice – male circumcision can drastically reduce the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases from female to male.

      So that would explain why the practice is encouraged across africa at least where access to meds is much more restrictive than say, the US.

      In all cases, circumcision should be consented to though. Infant/child circumcision should stop

      U.S. rate has been going down over the last 50 years. It was bery high in the mid 20th century, but the rate is substantively lower now and varies greatly by region.
