What is the US model under Trump? Everything he touches dies.

No one wants to work with him twice and he is untrustworthy. Only one person of his 2016 cabinet supported his campaign. Before him was Biden who went out of his way to say fuck you to the UK. There’s no special relationship. This is about trust and the US right now is taking a downturn. You don’t hold onto someone about to jump.

The UK already has Europe style taxes and socialism.

In France & Germany where “taxes” are higher pension provisions are much more generous and based on contributions… here you get a much smaller flat amount. If you remove pensions from the equation UK taxes are some of the highest in the world.

  3. The US model in this case being “not understanding how tariffs work”

The UK will pick whichever one makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Inevitably.

Socialism please. Using the number of billionaires as a metric of success isn’t working.

US is a failed state. 5% of the world population. 25% of world consumption. Homeless camps. Zero public services. Go to hell capitalist fascists.

Easy, let’s choose socialism – rather than an economic model that sees people selling their home when they get cancer because they can’t afford the healthcare costs.

The fact that he only has four years and then we’ll likely see change again (who knows in what way), coupled with potentially losing Congress during the midterms in two years means there isn’t a lot of stability in the US option, even if it were preferable.

Blah blah, heard all this last time out and we’ll hear it again.

Can we have neither? I know it’s something we like to pretend that Europe has it all figured out but on the whole it doesn’t.

So pick between the model that works and is stable or the one that causes global economic recessions every few decades, relies on constant war and coups, that has daily school shootings and where a broken bone can bankrupt a family and where you don’t even get holidays and where you don’t get paid proper wages but have to beg for tips? Hmmm

Is “socialism” in the room with us now, Stephen? I could be mistaken, but last I checked, the proletariat hadn’t seized the means of production across the channel.

This is nothing to do with “economic models” and everything to do with US companies owning more and more of the UK and making us pay rent to exist in our own country.

Ah yes, let’s follow a nation which has 37 million people in absolute poverty and falling ill can lead to bankruptcy and homelessness.

  16. grayparrot116 on

Let’s choose a model that allows us to keep what we have at the moment. That is the supposed “socialism” this guy speaks about.

You do all realise that “socialism” for these people is everything that does not equal their ideals, right?

  17. carbonvectorstore on

    Silly America.

We will pick the worst of both, as is tradition.

Trade with the EU is far greater than the US. Unless Trump opens up the whole economy to the UK, we will align with the more stable EU. If we do what Trump asks he will always ask for more tribute.

Fully-automated gay space communism now! Or maybe just some gentle social democracy a la Corbyn 2017…

  20. bluecheese2040 on

It’s such backwards thinking. The whole brexit ‘promise’ was that we could do another way…like a Singapore. Instead we’ve failed on all.counts so who knows

  21. They know that “socialism” doesn’t get our backs up the same way it does over there, right?

Just typing this out before it happens: the people want the EU model but the business execs who we call MPs will go with the US model as it benefits them
