That’s a dumb decision, if war breaks out with China that’s the first place getting bombed, and with 32 million people in the area and it being top heavy government/industry-wise whatever bombing campaign happening will be a nightmare 

Japan should have started ramping up the JSDF after Bush JR backed out of directly defending Taiwan in return for China agreeing to not supply arms to the Taliban: that was the writing on the wall that the US Government was willing to sell out allies for personal gain.

Trump’s first term bullshit should have been the nail in the coffin for Japanese pacifism & the acceptance that the US was on the path to abandoning the Japan defense pact.
