As a petroleum engineer this is exactly why we elected smith, to fight for the workers to have a better life and keep this province comfortably at the top of canada, not focus on unemployed people and/or wishy washy issues like identity politics or environmental issues

Trumps 4 year term isn’t enough time to get a route planned, permitted and built. In reality we will end up with more oil by rail, more environmentally risky and carbon intensive.

  3. Conservatives are about to learn Trump doesn’t give a shit about Canadian oil.

He cares only about increasing domestic production even though its already at an all time high under Biden.

Albertans still believe Trump will pay them for their oil, after stiffing every other person or organization he has ever worked with. Don’t get me wrong, he will take the oil, just no payments will be made.

Then Alberta will call who for a resolution? Ottawa? Sorry we can’t save you from yourselves.

Fuck the environment and climate change, right!?! You know, let’s just bring back leaded gas and CFC’s and throw all our garbage into the rivers and oceans.

Let’s continue to consume every single resource of this planet in an unsustainable way.

  6. Hopefully it goes thru. Alberta could really use a surge in revenue.

It’s crazy that the hive minded can’t see how much worse their lives are getting under conservative/republican leadership. Rich and white is going to be a Canadian superpower for the next few years. There is nothing like voting against your own best interests to try and punish the people you want to be.

  8. Oil is $66 and dropping quickly.  Western select crude is even cheaper.   If it goes too low, no company will pay for a pipeline.  Look what happened when we bought trans mountain.

I didn’t we try this before? And it was vetoed and cost Alberta like a billion dollars?

Canada needs to start ramping up our natural resources exports. I’m tired of the government crippling our country and turning it into a welfare country

  11. This lady just didn’t know when to call it “we learned our lesson.” It is not possible to do a major project across the border – period.

If the province really wanted to do the right thing for the energy industry, it should be Alberta who bought out the trans mountain pipelines, not the Trudeau government. When Trudeau made the purchase, the media was like here you go again, just buying your way out of the problem.

A more favourable approach is probably to seek tidewater domestically. A pipeline to Churchill could be a better option.

The sea lane is going to be open year round soon and Churchill represents the closest pipeline infrastructure that can export from Alberta to Europe.

It’s far less technically challenging than Trans Mountain because it’s not crossing the Rocky Mountains and it should also be more energy efficient as it’s downhill the whole way more or less.

Canada should be looking to diversify its export partners and a pipeline to Churchill would achieve this.

Perhaps they should consider a LNG terminal at the same time.

Would those investments pay off if oil demand peaks somewhere in the 2030s?
Wouldn’t it take 4/5 years from approval to construction and then 5 years before demand starts slowing. I guess then we can shutter older ones and stll have new infrastructure. But I feel like it’ll just get bailed/bought out mid project again.

  14. Are they gonna triple down on kxl. Throw more billions at something that won’t get built? The fucking stupidity of this province shines through with the leadership they voted in

How is this gonna work with the massive tariffs Trump is bringing in?

  16. You think Donald _**”Cancel NAFTA”**_ Trump is going to legitimately approve pipelines?

    lmao

North America needs conservatives right now considering what’s happening in the rest of the world, feel good, joy or sunny ways accomplishes nothing. Export natural gas to countries that need it so they don’t buy from Russia and their allies.

  18. EvacuationRelocation on

Yes – nothing will help oil prices like increasing supply…

Alberta will build a pipeline for Trump and Canadians will pay for it.

Fiscal conservatism on full display once again.

  20. I think Trump may ramp up US production and reduce dependence on our oil
