  1. >“You know, it’s so easy to stand outside America and say this and that,” Washington, 69, said in response. “Turn around, you know? Pick a country. Any one.”

    >“But listen,” the Training Day actor continued. “It’s all politics. All promises unkept. And now with the information age the way it is — if anything — left, right, whatever had better learn how to use those tools to manipulate the people. There was a great line in the first movie I did, [1981’s] Carbon Copy: ‘Power to the people? Yeah, they had it once — it was called the Stone Age.’”

    >“We’re all slaves to information now. We really are. We’re all slaves. So whatever you feel about the leaders, like this guy’s crazy or the other one is sane, you’d better realize you’re being manipulated by both sides. Period,” Washington added. “Yeah. So go to the movies.”

    I mean, to a degree, he’s right.

I hate both sides-ism, since the GOP is a far bigger problem, but the Democrats fucked us over by going right on issues, and now they’re blaming woke-ism for the loss instead of themselves.

They sold us out to cater to “moderate” Republicans, and when that predictably didn’t work, they blamed trans people.

  3. jogoso2014 on

While true, we aren’t manipulated by our own ideals and fortunately mine very clearly align with one party more than the sucky Republican one.

  4. badugihowser on

He’s right to a degree, but this argument has never been more untimely given the person just elected.

  5. Millennial_Man on

The ultimate cop out. Yeah, obviously politicians are dishonest and self-serving; but one party is actively working to strip rights away from people, and the other one isn’t.

  6. AceLionKid on

Sir, no one is denying that both sides are corrupt as fuck. But when your wants align with someone else’s wants, that’s not manipulation, that’s a common goal.

  7. reporttimies on

This sounds like something an enlightened centrist would say who has no fucking idea how bad the Republicans are compared to the Democrats. I mean, Trump nominated a literal anti-vaxxer as the health secretary. There is no comparison.

“both sides” is a terrible way to look at politics. it discourages involvement and action. Politics is an imperfect vehicle for change but to hold out being a part of the struggle because the results won’t be perfect is foolish

  9. Leading_Manner_2737 on

lol all of the comments here condemning Denzel are exactly proving his point

  10. brokenwolf on

I hate hearing comments like this in the Trump era. While you can make some constructive criticisms to the left only one side is actively trying to hurt the people.

  11. ltsMeScully on

Who cares what he has to say? He lives in a bubble, and the “both sides” answer is a sign of cowardice when one of those sides will destroy many lives especially in communities that are already struggling. Thanks for nothing Denzel, at the end of the day, you are still just an actor so get down your golden tower and see if both sides are the same… they are not.

  12. Hold on which of those movies in the 90’s were clunkers? I’ve seen Crimson Tide, He Got Game, The Pelican Brief, Devil in a Blue Dress, and The Bone Collector. Thought those were all decent to good.

  13. LeakyNalgene on

It’s sad how divided we’ve become. Some of you are shitting on Denzel because he gave a diplomatic comment that you disagree with. Now he’s “wrong”, but it’s just one man’s opinion. Who cares what Denzel thinks?

  14. houstonyoureaproblem on

This isn’t the issue. That’s essentially how politics works. Call it manipulation if you want, but each side is trying to do whatever it can to convince people to vote for them.

The real question people need to be asking is:

    To what end?

It’s blatantly obvious one side is trying to steer the ship away from the storm, while the other is drilling holes in the sides.

That’s what should be guiding everyone when they think about which political candidates to support.

  15. betacaretenoid on

People can’t even be trusted to vote for the lesser of two evils so maybe once the dictatorship starts within next few years, people will realize that they’ve been manipulated too late. Once the right to vote has been eliminated via the new autocracy, there’ll be no need to manipulate anymore. You’re onto something, Denzel, give us more words of wisdom.

“Both sides both sides both sides”

Bro only ONE side betrayed the will of the people on jan 6th 2020 through a violent insurrection.

Only ONE side built their entire campaing in mind-rotting lies propagated by the ONE billionaire oligarch who openly supports ONE of the candidates only to make themselves richer and get judicial immunity. The Democrats are not even close to the swamp that is the Republican party under Trump!

  17. TurdTampon on

Oh no I got manipulated to care about rights for everyone and the environment! How terrible /s

  18. SummerPeach92 on

Oh 💯 but it’s painfully obvious the ulterior motive of the trump party which imo makes obvious who’s the best option if you want any hope for a better modern life for yourself. The always been rich guy with his track record isn’t going to have a sudden change of character at 78 years old.

  19. That suggests there is some equality in the way in which the parties look at people, and that’s just bullshit!
There is no purity in politics, but the masses of people are going to get more of their needs by Democrats, than they will by Republicans. Republicans only care about the top 10% of the top 1%, period!

  20. OneTinySloth on

Even if he is right, the timing makes him look like a giant arsenugget.

  21. Really? One side tried to over throw the government and is the spreader of disinformation

  22. Yes. Yes. Both sides suck, but one is objectively worse the other. I’ll take the side that doesn’t embrace fascism.

  23. latortillablanca on

Virtuosity, preachers wife, and bone collector. The rest are bangers and a half.

  24. Adavanter_MKI on

Of course both sides are guilty of slant. Except one side is also guilty of collusion, treason, rape, fraud, gross negligence and espousing fascist rhetoric and lies publicly for all to see.

So you know… not *quite* the same*.*

  25. OkFaithlessness9591 on

To be fair I think the majority of the left has already realized this and thats why the biggest battle is turnout while the right has the same number of people voting every election give or take

  26. rob_thomas69 on

Well as long as he feels like he’s above it all, then he’s good. Right? No need to take a stand against idiocy and fascism. Just go ahead and declare that it’s all bad.

(As he retreats back to his mansion in **Beverly Hills** to have freaky ass parties with elites)

  27. Kinda sick of this both sides bullshit. Ain’t but one side got Nazis on it, ain’t but one side talking about deporting millions of people that would require concentration camps. God spits you out his mouth if you lukewarm, Denzel.

Denzel: Both sides are being manipulated

Top reddit comments: I’m not being manipulated

  29. Any-Variation4081 on

Jfc I’m so tired of this “both sides are bad” bs. Of course democrats aren’t perfect but to compare them to the people who are actively taking women’s rights and talking about taking more is ridiculous. Only one side is supporting a raping felon who stole and refused to return classified documents. Only one side is supporting the man who talks about wanting to jail or kill his political opponents. Only one side is supporting the man who is trying to appoint just as unqualified people as himself into office. Only one side refused to concede the 2020 election and claim it was stolen after over 50 courts found no evidence of such. It’s absurd to even try to compare democrats to Republicans at this time. Prior to Trump sure…. but now? jfc stop it!

  30. Can we eat the politicians now?

I didn’t want to be the first one to try, and end up looking weird.

  31. ThePickledPickle on

Which isn’t wrong, but Kamala & Trump are on two different planets

I know Kamala would’ve chosen a better AG than *Matt fucking Gaetz*

  32. Recon_Figure on

I’m just defeatist about this kind of comment:

If you’re trying to motivate people to get involved, great. But unless you can mobilize so many people to vote for certain for a third party in two years, why bother pointing out AGAIN that both sides are malevolent?
