Most public health institutions and vets will take them for testing. Not sure on the species but I would guess a deer tick

Applying heat to a tick is not recommended. It can increase their saliva production which is what causes pathogen transmission.

That’s a North American ChonkyBoy-Bloodsuckerish they can usually be found outside of most BBQ restaurants

  4. I’m not sure if you’re in Canada or not, but we have an app called “eTick” you can download from the App Store. You submit photos of the tick along with some other information, and usually within 24hours it’ll be identified by one of their professionals who review each submission.

  7. Oh boy, this brings back my nightmare from last year!

That’s a dog-tick, your dog needs anti-tick medication if you keep finding more as they multiply exponentially. If it’s just one, then you are fine, but you must make sure.

That tick is full, so yes, it’s been there overnight. Flush it or burn it, because they can survive cuts and stomping.

By broken claw (2nd from left?), I think you mean it’s leg. No need to worry about finding it, it will fall away, if it hasn’t already.

Usually ticks are found between your dog’s toes, between their paw pads, arm pits (or leg pits?), in ears- specially the folds, the bottom and the base of their tail. Check where your dog sleeps. They tend to find crevices nearby to hide and lay eggs. Eggs look like very fine spots of burnt caramel sugar.

A vet can prescribe the meds. There are a few options based on your dog’s weight. Bravecto seems to do the trick for my dogs. It says on the pack your dog will be tick-free for at least 6 months. My beagle and huskey are tick-free 11 months with just one pill each. Bravecto is a nuclear option, and some vets say it may affect your dog’s liver. My dogs are healthy, young, and always wrecking havoc, so vet and I decided to go for it. We didn’t see any side-effects.

  8. Natural coconut oil is a great anti tick solution. I put some of it, not too much, into his food. And then at the beginning of the season I put the oil onto his fur. The first week daily and then once per week.
Never had ticks. But I forgot it after he was on the lake. Next day… tick.
