> “I saw about 10 or 15 minutes of it,” Schrader said. “I left, bought something, came back, saw another 10 minutes. That was enough.”
> When asked what he didn’t like about the musical aspect of the film, Schrader was equally as blunt – Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
> “I don’t like either of those people,” he said. “I don’t like them as actors. I don’t like them as characters. I don’t like the whole thing. I mean, those are people who, if they came to your house, you’d slip out the back door.”
Sometimes Schrader can be full of himself, but man, he’s 100% on the ball here. I WISH I left Joker 2.
Since this movie is doing so poorly it makes me glad I didn’t want to see it due to not liking the first one.
Were people surprised this was a musical?
I guess its box office return is all me and the partner lol
We’ve seen this movie 3 times on screen like we did the first one – love it, love it, love it. It gets under your skin, and there’s some really great stuff going on under the hood and I am glad I even got to have it for a few brief moments before everything has to slam back into Snyder/Gunn/Russo mode.
Yet, the burnout is super real this year. I notice that my fellow Americans get weirdly feral during election and wartime because we get politically sober for a few months and realize how bad everything is under and around you and we tend to go for our comforts first as a relief and then as blame.
I’m glad that this got even two movies considering the landfill that is Batman Studios. Curious how people will feel about it in a few years’ time. See you all, then!
Haha I can just imagine him coming back to his seat with his popcorn, giving a little grunt as he gets comfortable. Then, to subtlety say “yeah, I had enough” and getting up with that old man sound and just casually walks away with his popcorn.
Paul Schrader is a psychopath curmudgeon but he also wrote Taxi Driver and directed Mishima which are two films that show the deepest understanding of what makes a movie “cinema” sooooo
I don’t want to see it and don’t care about spoilers:
Can anyone explain why it’s so universally panned as terrible?
I haven’t seen a big movie get this much shit in a long time.
I’m honestly surprised he saw it at all
Here’s how everyone could have avoided the disappointment; realizing the first one also sucked.
The concept has jumped the shark.
Fuck this movie though, he’s right. Saw it seemed like the studio just went, “let’s see what these idiots will let us get away with” then proceeded to make the worst movie they possibly could on purpose.
Joaquin. Walk out. Whatever.
But is it better than Cats?
