this should be a no brainer.
The only no brainers are the Canadian politicians themselves.
The Windsor-Québec corridor is a no brainer….
I’m gonna love riding this when I’m 75.
Unfortunately Air Canada wants in…..
We need both, we need the volume handling of high frequency, and the convenience of high speed.
Have an Express limited stop Network running alongside a high frequency lower speed system.
Oh c’mon now… we all know this will never, ever happen in Canada. Jeez
Hopefully at least something tangible will materialize from this project.
My understanding is that trains in North America cannot pass over grade crossings in excess of 110 mph (~177 km/h), so actual ‘high speed tracks’ require either: overpasses, underpasses, or permanent truncation of intersecting roads.
If you look at the progress page for the California High Speed Rail project, so much of the work is spent just building a bunch of overpasses for every little rural road that intersects the alignment.
Again, props to the feds if they can pull it off, but at this point I’d be happy to see any new tracks being built for VIA.
Hopefully my great grandchildren will be able to witness the opening of this high speed rail 200 years later.
Could, should, but probably won’t. I wonder if it would be the provinces to cancel it first, or the next federal government.
Lemme guess, bombardier is going to supply the trains and SNC Lavellin will do the construction designs
Not happening and if it does happen it will be 6 times over budget and not optimal for passengers then due to old design.
Yes but have we considered building another highway, under a highway?
15 years to build this?
Who wants to go to Kingston anyway… Smith Falls is the destination. Maybe Brockville for a detour
China would build this in a weekend.
Doug Ford is going to sell out the land last minute.
Just don’t subcontract the contract for operations.. and if they must don’t pick Alstom.
Doesn’t like half the country live in this corridor? HSR won’t be cheap, especially as we don’t have the benefits of having done it before, but we should still pull the trigger and build it.
I think we should build it. Shovels in the ground by 2040 after some more environmental studies sound good to everyone?
Just occurred to me that the overlap of people who will say that highways are bad and will destroy neighborhoods with people who say we need highspeed trains is probably pretty high. You’d think that would lead them to being people you can make a utility argument with as they are already making it in order to justify the trade offs. When you think about it, really is the perfect opportunity to create a new highway to select locations traveling in as straight a line as possible while sharing as much cost as possible. Doug ford wants a new highway, others want a high speed rail. Sounds like two birds with one slightly larger stone. Somehow i think that is non-negotiable though.
What are they considering high frequency? Daily, except for weekends
Upper and Lower Canada I presume?
My great grandchildren might be able to ride it
my lotto max ticket could become a winning jackpot lotto max ticket.
No not could. It must be Should, and Will!
Blah blah blah
All just more talk talk talk.
Politicians in this country can’t get anything real done.
Open just in time for Canada 250.
