“Mulcair points out that that Joly’s response to South Africa’s claim, brought to the International Court of Justice, that Israel is guilty of genocide has been “undecipherable,” which is putting it gently. . . . “

“After he says he pressed Joly on the South African issue she replied, “Thomas, have you seen the demographics of my riding”?

There you have it. A minister with a higher duty, holding one of the most important cabinet positions in the country, admits to pandering to a specific demographic in order to save her own political skin.

This unnamed demographic in Ahuntsic-Cartierville appears to be a make-or-break one for Joly who won her seat in the riding in 2021 by 15,290 votes. While the specific group Joly was referring to isn’t named, we can make an educated guess. Of the 80,359 eligible voters in the riding in 2021, 13.8 per cent identified as Arab, coming from regions including Algeria, Syria, Morocco, and Lebanon, according to census data.”

If she becomes PM, this could easily become PR for all international students because “Thomas, have you seen the protests in vote-rich Liberal ridings?!”

    3. >Canada’s unwavering support for international law and the ICJ does not mean we accept the premise of the case brought by South Africa. We will follow the proceedings of South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice very closely.” There isn’t a linguist alive skilled enough to decipher that gibberish.

Idk it’s pretty straightforward to me. “We respect international law, but just because South Africa files a claim doesn’t mean we support its premise, we are watching to see how the court rules”.

Although it’s not surprising a natipo opinion writer struggles to read.

      Edit: there’s this gem too

      >While the specific group Joly was referring to isn’t named, we can make an educated guess.

      Followed by

      >In truth, we have no idea what these voters actually think about Israel

This is what postmedia considers journalism, smh.

Joly has let a handful of influential donors and international organizations and American government directives drive Israel policy – there fixed it

Canada is one of America’s stalking horses on international relations. Our positions are ‘signals’ to the Israeli government that American policy might change in this direction. Other American stalking horses are the UK, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. If Canada does something on the international stage, it’s a clear signal to other countries that America might eventually do something similar.

This is because we are a vassal state to the American empire. I wish everyone would stop being so fucking thick about this.

    5. What exactly is wrong with her israel policy? Canada actually doesn’t benefit when israel destabilizes lebanon and iran and raises oil prices and causes another refugee crisis. Why would we sell them weapons to help them do that?

This might be the most moronic, double speaking, pandering cabinet in the history of this nation. Just unbelievably incoherent, incompetent and dangerous.

    7. Enough with Israel vs Palestine stuff dominating the news. Canada can’t solve it. Give it another 50 years and guess what, it’ll be in the exact same situation except worse. Lets move on to something solveable and not just sound bites

Israel sucks lets move on. Please lets not support them. They should be treated like South Africa 1992.
