HAP is a scam, the government claims to be attempting to address the rental crisis while at the same time propping it up and inflating it further with the money we as workers are paying in.
The clearest sign they have no interest in addressing the housing crisis is that this policy is still in place.
Absolutely no doubt Hap has helped to raise rents and property prices while giving money to the most wealthy in our society exactly as intended

We need to bring forward legislation to ban private landlords from the market completely. Profiteering from property needs to be taken out of the hands of those who are completely exploiting a crisis.
Using the private sector to provide social housing was always an obviously bad idea. Pretty sure sinn fein and the rest of the opposition said as much when it was introduced

HAP will be available to hundreds of thousands of immigrants arriving every year with low income, further pushing housing prices in an already inflated market.
Most of the politicians are landlords with multiple properties or their friends and aqquantices are or own hotels and this massive influx of immigrants with low housing stock suits them perfect.
We need to control immigration before we can control the housing stock. Whatever number of houses we build will be outnumbered massively by net immigration.
We are losing our young people abroad because house prices are so high here while we take in economic refugees and give them free housing healthcare and subsidize their living.
And no I’m not a racist, I’m an ordinary Irish man falling out of love with his country.
That’s great and all but what actually happens now? It’s the same with any report. It comes out with findings and then….that’s it, everyone moves on the same as they did.
A report stating you don’t own something it you rent it, is groundbreaking
It’s fucking infuriating that this report was necessary to point this out. The thickest thicko in Ireland could – and DID – tell you this was a bullshit plan that was only going to drive up the cost of housing and renting. On top of that, just as a nice parting kick in the balls, the government will defend it, and continue it – because half of them are landlords.
€537.4 million was spent on HAP in 2023 for 70k people.
€651.713 million was spent in 2023 housing 30k asylum seekers and some of the conditions are atrocious with people crammed in rooms with bunk beds. Just shows you how much over the odds they’re paying for the asylum contracts.
