Unbelievably bad for all involved. This also will negatively and retroactively change how tons of people feel about the first film. Just wow.

If you asked anyone normal they’d of told you a musical sequel staring lady gaga was not going to succeed…

these studios baffle me with some of their decisions

  3. Well now I have to watch it. It’s bombed so badly I just have to watch it.

Skeletor is laughing pretty hard right now though.

    Sincerly

    Skeletor 💜

I guess they just thought that they could do anything they want with this second movie and people would just eat it up since the first movie was so successful.

You can have great stuff going on while the music is playing or being sung. Remember Clockwork Orange?

It’s wild because the acting is incredible, the cinematography is done exceptionally well, and then the story…. They just figured sucking up 5 minutes with a shitty song here and there and having nothing progress the plot was just icing on the cake.

    Spoiler:
I get the persona is bigger than the person piece, but this was a horrible character study in that aspect.

Only an opinion, but it seems obvious that they took the wrong ideas from focus groups coupled by what created traction on social media. When they saw that the most popular scene was the dancing on the stairwell, they assumed that people wanted a whole movie based on that.

  9. My favorite line in the movie comes at the end… Joker says to Quinn… “please stop singing”.

Then could hear multiple bursts of laughter at that line.

The fact the musical was “real” and not that a brain damaged Arthur Fleck could only hear music etc… was certainly a bad choice for this movie.

  10. Gaga has been in a few movies now that have been pushed hard and haven’t done very well.
Maybe she should stick to the singing

This is what happens when fans want a sequel as dark as the first but are given a musical.

What a waste of money and time…

I mean, did they think the fan base and casual viewers went to a “Batman” movie for a musical? LoL

This is the default of DC comics. Cheap out, make shit, pray it works. Nose dive.

Whoever thought this movie would work as a musical was 🥜

  15. Pretty sure it went sideways when someone decided it would be a good idea to make a sequel to a dark comic book drama and make the sequel a musical.

A massive fuck you to the fans of the original and a musical courtroom drama.
    “You get what you deserve”

  17. It’s one thing to think your audience took the wrong message from your film. It’s another thing to do a sequel and essentially tell your fans that they were idiots for liking the first.

  18. I feel like if they just made it uber violent and a musical that would have worked. No one wanted whatever this is.

I’m still gonna watch it when it’s available to watch at home.

I’m impressed by Warner’s inability to make a super hero franchise work, even with the success of the first movie, they still fumbled hard in the sequence.

I was planning to go see this but the reviews have turned me off. What a shame for movies and the movie experience.

He’s not just shafted fans but also cinema in general, in a time where streaming is king, these directors of IP like Joker have a responsibility to produce movies that get bums on seats.

People who like musicals and people who liked Joker are mostly not the same people

And Joaquin Phoenix had to lose weigh, yet again, (and seems more than on the first movie) when the sequel could have made him wear a fat suit and go full Penguin instead.

Totally a waste of film with the Joker singing.

  24. I dont understand … why going with a musical?? Its the fuckin Joker. Do they think that people who loves batman/joker universe also love
Musical? Cause i do not. And i think others dont too. And it shows

  25. The first Joker was one of those movies that everyone seemed to like and I had a negative opinion of it, not just indifferent to it.

With everyone not liking this one I feel vindicated

  26. Ummm… because from everything I’ve seen and heard, it’s completely up its own arse. And Gaga is hardly a symbol of humility, she thinks she’s some kind of goddess.

Talking (probably out my ass) as a Gen Xer, who in the hell wants to see a musical, much less a musical about “The Joker”.

  28. I’m ok with a couple of songs, but not a full on fuckin musical!!! There was some good stuff in the movie, but they really missed a couple of opportunities to redeem that shit movie. I’m not often critical of movies, but this was a major disappointment of a sequel.
