      This question is right up there with, “Does a bear shit in the woods?” —the school official made it so obvious that no one, not even a MAGA die-hard, would say it was coincidence. They even went down to the required cover texture of the Lee Greenwood/Don’old Trump bible.

      I went to a Christian school. We were expected to furnish our own Bibles. The only requirement was that it was NIV translation. There is no possible reason, except grift, for a *public* school to have all those additional requirements.

      Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion.

      The same guy rushing this through, Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters, has delayed emergency inhalers for schoolchildren for over a year.

      The specification states

      “Bibles must be the King James Version; must contain the Old and New Testaments; must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; and must be bound in leather or leather-like material.”

      That describes the bible that Trump is shilling to a t.

      Bad enough that bibles are somehow required to be in public schools for anything other than an optional “comparative religion “ class but what the hell does the bible have to do with the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

      I used to write specs and receive bids for a local government. It was a violation of state law (not Oklahoma) to write specs so narrowly that only one bidder could respond. Other potential bidders could complain to the state Attorney General and/or sue us for the value of business lost plus expenses.

      If only one bidder responded to specs, we had to re-write and re-publish to avoid even the appearance of favoritism. The only time we could use no-bid purchasing was with documentation we had tried and failed to find another source.

      Would it be great to see actual bible publishers sue this school district for unfair purchasing practices?
